Angry Turned down by the manager! DAMN! :(

I'm looking into dancing, however, I had never danced before! Considering how I danced in general (clubs, parties wherever!) , "stripping/exotic dancing" doesn't sounds sooo challenging as everyone makes it seem.. Hell it seems easy! how hard could it be seriously?

Nehoww..I called into speak to a manager about working at their club. He told me to possibly come down just to explain about the club as well as fill out some information. So I drove down there a few days after I made the phone call!.. Of course, I was made up..make up, casual but cute lookin outfit, and i was wit my best friend who also was considering of working there as well. we both looked perfectly fine.. nothin to extreme but juss cute..

She left her freakin I.D. so the confusion of her talkin about why she needed her I.D. to fill out an application and them tryin to listen to her while maintainin the club..who knowss wut the hell was goin on.. but anyways I was filling out the application..the bouncers ended up gettin the manager.. he was really sweet rightt? welll tell me why as soon as he asked me "Do you have any dance experienced?" Silly-ol-Honest-Me mentioned that "I've never danced, but it seems easy in mah case, and I pick up on things real quick.."

After he asked me that question, he also asked if I was avaliable..and I told him "yes!! anytime!! tonite or whenever!" Okay he kept emphasizing about experienced in dancing and told me "OH we don't have any positions as of now, but we will give you call if there is any open!"

WTFFFF.. as soon as he said that, I was like ugh wut the hell happened..!? i was thinkin, could it had been me? could it had been that i was a bit too casual with heels, or is it because is aid something wrong..but its like I only said like 3 things.. could it had been bc i have NO EXPERIENCED.. ??

now if that club is very picky on experienced..then i guess i gotta lie and say ive danced before.. bc if every club was like that one, i would never get hired at ANY bc i have no experienced.. COULD sum one please explain? no serious cuz im confused? I thought clubs don't have a limit when it comes down to dancers and being hired!?

Weeelll...if they didn't like the way you looked, that's probably the reason.

If you're pretty sure that's not it though, I'd say, based on your post, it sounds like they thought you might be underage and using a fake ID.

Maybe the manager realized you have absolutely no idea what you're getting into. There is so much more involved in stripping than simply shaking your ass like you're at a party!

Dancing on stage is the EASY part in being a exotic dancer. Its the hustling thats the hard part.

If you lie about having experience theyll know the truth the first time you get on stage. It is nothing like the booty shaking you do in a night club.

Not ALL clubs want experienced girls - who knows why they didnt hire you just go try some other clubs. Everyone had to start somewhere and if all clubs only hired experienced girls there would be no girls to dance...

I think when they tell you that there's no openings they usually don't like your "look" or sometimes they really DON'T have any availability for new dancers...if you really want to work there then keep trying, maybe on a different shift.

If what we as dancers go through on a day to day basis seems easy to you, then perhaps you should read around this board a little more and find out exactly what all is envolved in what we do. It's not as easy as you think and it's nothing like what you do when you go to a regular club and shake your ass. There is so much more to it then that. The world of dance and what goes on in it and how things are done is different then anything else is.

As for why the manager said what he said, it could be a variety of reasons. Some clubs only have so many girls at one time, and if they have enough, they wont bring someone else in till they need more. Or as stated above, he might not have liked your look or thought that you had no idea what your getting yourself in too and didnt think you could handle it. You can lie and say you have experience, but as also stated, the first time you take the stage, everyone will know you dont anyway, so theres not a lot of point to it.

Yeah, I second Yekhefah's comment. "Hell it seems easy! how hard could it be seriously?" I couldn't tell from your post whether or not you had actually been to any strip clubs. This would be a very, very good idea. Do your research, and then, if you still think it seems so easy, try going to another club.

You never know whether they're going to be willing to take a chance on an unexperienced dancer - and you'll find a club that will, I'm sure - but I would strongly recommend that you be honest. They'll figure it out, I guarantee you that. No matter how natural a mover you might be in the clubs (and I don't doubt that, I'll bet you are good), there is SO much more to the job. The only thing lying will get you is embarassment and possibly hostility when they find out you were dishonest.

first of all, in general, if you're hot and you've got a decent personality you will probably get hired. they may only give you day shifts to start or what not, but experience is not usually an issue. i mean, at the very least, they will let you audition.

second of all, if you honestly believe that stripping is no more difficult than a night at your local club, you are seriously mistaken. i partied with the best of them at the hottest clubs in la for several years. i was the girl who didn't stop dancing from the time she walked in the door to the minute she left and i can tell you, stripping is an entirely different experience.

yes, you may understand how to make your body move to music and that will help you out, for sure. but that is about the extent of the similarity.

as far as getting hired goes, look for a club that has an amature night and go try out. and i would leave the "your job is so easy" attitude at the door.

A couple of problems I can see with this post.

    1. An application?? I've never filled out an application before I got hired. Usually you audition first, then they have you fill out an ap. Did they misunderstand that you were wanting a dancer position and not that of bartender of waitress?

    2. Stripping is not rocket science, BUT everyone can tell a brand new dancer the minute she takes the stage. Even if she is a trained dancer, her lack of protocol knowledge of how a stage set should be performed will be glaringly obvious to everyone.

    3. Bringing a female friend is a bad idea. This business is very cut throat, and the need to be gutsy enough to walk into your audition by yourself is very important. It really made you look bad when your friend didn't even have ID to get in.

Even if you were an expierenced dancer you may not have been hired. It is not fun for a manager to listen to 100 girls a week complaining about not being able to get any shifts, and then overscheduling to tha point where no one makes any money.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

When you go to get a job, go alone, and have your shit together (and that means ID).

Well now, totally don't lie about having experience as a stripper, as soon as you go on stage it will show. And then the manager automatically thinks if you lie about something as simple as that, what else are you lying about. (I have been in the office when girls have lied about things like that and it makes them a little wary of you.)
And it really isn't like dancing in a regular club. Hang out in a couple strip clubs and then go from there. It is harder than you think.

I have filled out an application before (seemed silly to me too) and I WAS told they were full. this was because they only have a certain amount of girls hired at a time. I was called within the next month, but by then I had moved on to another club. At the time I had 5 years of experience and had already worked in a few clubs in the same town.
there are many reasons why you weren't hired, lack of experience, looks, attitude, no ID.. Some clubs are serious about all these things and some really do have a waiting list.
I say check some other clubs in town, if you are as cute as you say, you might be hired even with lack of experience, and NEVER lie about that.
I also think you should read more on this site. I am constantly telling new girls to check it out because we can give you tips and make you aware of the perils and all around ugliness that this job can have.
    Good luck.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

YIKES! "How hard can it be"....hun these girls work there asses off! You don't stand on stage twirling your hair with a finger in your mouth! Have you been on a pole? That is when I gained an even bigger ammount of respect for these women! I'm auditioning for the first time next week...I'm scared shitless....but I'm not fooling myself by saying it's 'easy'. I used to dance on a Pro Sports team on a dance squad...travelled around the US and back home to Canada....and I was on TV all the time. To me that was EASY! Dancing in a strip club...YIKES! Scary! But I'm so excited to try it!

You can be the hottest thing on earth...if you can't get up there and move your screwed. I have been a customer in the Clubs for a long time...and the girls I respect and enjoy watching are the one's who take pride in their job...the ROCK!

No clue where you live but here in LA they actually offer classes and no it's not the strip aerobics...it's actual lessons on how to dance. I suggest maybe doing that if it's available in your area...I bought a pole and have been getting the BEST workouts from trying to learn some tricks. And I workout every day and I felt it after trying the pole...in places I haven't felt it before!

These women deserve respect for what they do...it's hard work on every level (emotionally and physically).

Try a new club....and don't lie...be honest. If they don't hire you move on to the next club...or maybe ask for some honest feed back from them. can't hurt?

    Good luck!

try another club, or change outfits and hair styles, Youd be surprised how many managers can see you one week and the next not remember you. That happens even after youve worked there for several weeks or months. I had a day manager forget I worked there and I stopped by one day and he asked me to fill out paperwork, Im like duh I ve worked here for 6 months idiot.

So either change looks, maybe sex it up a bit, and go back or go to another club.

Next time you ask for advice, try not to start with a rude, insulting comment.

Glad you got the job. Maybe now you can eat those words.

i wasn't trying to be a bitch, but you have to understand that your "it's so easy" attitude is both insulting and ignorant.

for some reason we get a lot of girls coming into to our club and 95% only come in to berate the dancers, so when i log on sw and see the another girl who's never worked the job making assumptions about the nature of our work, i get a little fired up...
