    Default serious question

my mom was talking to me and we were talking about her finding a good man and she said she has troubel meeting men becuse she dose not no what to say when they ask her where she works. She is on diability and dose not work. She has no obviouse handicaps so she dose not how to explain she is on disabilty for personal reasons that aren't realy 1st meeting conversations. So I am wanting to know from a girl and guys point of view what she should say. She is tired of meeting men that are losers she meets in the social settings that she finds her self in with her disabilty. so any clever suggestions would greatly help me help her. Thank you

Can she just say she's retired and leave it at that?

I recommend explaining the social settings and disability in order to get better advice. For example, if she has 12 toes we'd recommend one thing but if she has a weight problem we'd recommend something else. And without knowing her current social settings we might just be recommending the same ones.

She has something that she does with her life, even if it's making little crafty things, right? There's a creative way to divert the conversation to that.

    What do you do?
I'm retired and I make little crafty things.

    or
    What do you do?
I've dedicated my life to making little crafty things (or writing letters to politicians, or cooking good food, or whatever she does).

My friend who is bi-polar and schizophrenic is on disability and she explains it by saying she has really bad medical problems and is on disability. She does feel embarrassed to be on disability, but she has a really hard time keeping a job b/c they aren't very understanding of her 'episodes'. When meeting people (not just men, people in general) they do seem to 'look down on her' when they hear she's on disability. Luckily for you mom, she's not 26 (at least I'd hope not!!), so she could get away with the retirement excuse.
