Hazeljames: does the glue damage your natural hair at all? I'm really interested in buying some and doing this myself. I've had lots of practice using clip in extensions but I'm sick of guys almost pulling my hair out at work and having to constantly tighten them throughout the night! I'm trying to grow my natural hair out long (so I won't need extensions anymore!) so I don't want the glue to weaken my hair at all. Thanks for all the tips on this..

it definitely hasnt weakened my hair at all. i assume youre talking about breakage and so forth and i havent had any problems with that. some people argue that it pulls hair out (when removing the extensions) but i honestly dont think that my hair is any thinner after having three seperate sets of extensions.... it feels thinner at first because you get used to having twice as much hair but from my experience it didnt pull hair out. it is important to give your scalp a break between extensions though. after you pull out the extension and comb out the glue your scalp will feel a bit tender. i usually give myself a week in between sets.
let me know if you have any other questions

Thanks! Well, I just bought some new human hair strips and the glue and remover. I might have to go get the colour changed which is annoying, because they *almost* match my natural colour .. About putting them in, can you tell me if this is right?: you make a horizontal part in your real hair and then glue the strip in like 1/2 inch down from your scalp on your hair? Wow this is scary that I'm gonna do this by myself! Oh well, I'm so excited that I might have found a way to have long hair this summer! Thanks so much for your tips

Hi, LOL, ok I'll try and get a picture of the hair when it's all done! It's working surprisingly well so far.. I've got two pieces in and I'm just letting the glue dry a bit before going on.. Well bye for now!

obviously im a little late in replying here but i dont leave 1/2" between scalp and where i glue it... i maybe leave 1/4". dont know whether that will make a difference but thats how i do and and have seen it done. the bigger gap can sometimes leave a bumb of hair between your scalp and track if its not perfectly placed. i had that problem last time with my top track.

for future reference of others this is how you put the extensions in:

starting 1"-2" from the base of your neck hairline make a horizontal part. measure out a piece of hair that is 1/2"-1" shorter than the length of the part. apply glue to the cut track and allow it 15-30 seconds to get tacky (like eyelash glue). starting from one end place the track along your part and no further than 1/2" down the hair shaft. hold the ends down for an extra 10 seconds. do not pull on or brush the extension after applying it! wait at least 10 minutes for the glue to set. brushing too early will make it fall out.

so now your first track is in place. now make another horizontal part 1/2" above the first. repeat as for the first track. you want the edges of the tracks to be close to the edges of your hair but not so close that theyre visible. i like to leave about 1/2" between the edge of my hair and where the track begins to make sure it stays covered. if your using more than one color start interchanging them now

so continue doing this up your scalp until about 3" from your natural part (the one on the top of your head). some people like to apply their tracks further up that that but that tends to make the tracks at the top in the back of your head more visible because there is less natural hair to cover it up. if youre using more than one color of hair, the last track should be the color that best matches your actual hair (this way itll covered up the visible tracks from the other colors).

also if you have layers cut in your hair it helps to cut the last 3-4 tracks shorter in order to blend in your layers. i usually take just a couple inches off the bottom by making angled cuts with my scissors. it removes the blunt edge and helps for the extensions to look more natural.

if you want to put extensions in your side swept bangs start by making a short horizontal part just through the bang portion of your hair about 1/4" above your hairline. cut a track slightly shorter than the length of the part as before and glue into place. make another part 1/4" above the first and glue another track. i dont recomend using more than 2-3 tracks in your bangs or they start to look too full. after letting the tracks set and take my scissors and trim the bang extensions to blend them in better.

im a little tired right now so if any of this is confusing or just simply doesnt make sense let me know. good luck!

Yay!! I finished. It took kind of a long time because it was the first time, but if these stay in, I'm hooked! It cost me less than $50 Canadian for all the supplies to do this and I still have enough hair and glue to do it all over again if I wanted.. Thank you so much hazeljames, your instructions did help cuz I was checking on here while I did it and I followed your instructions after I read them.. Here's a pic (I'll have to straighten the top part of my hair because it has a natural wave to it while the extensions are stick-straight.) Thanks for your help!! Sorry the pic is so small, it looked a lot bigger on my computer I hope you can sort of see it still.

your extensions look great! if you dampen all your hair with detangler and braid it all in one big braid till it dries youll get these beautiful aphrodite style waves that'll blend with your actual hair. thats how i usually wear mine, i get so sick of straightening it.

also braiding your hair at night will help keep it nice. long extension hair tends to get tangly and the base of your neck and can look a little nappy after a week or so if youre not careful. i usually wash mine once a week.... that means shampooing that top section of actual hair and just deep conditioning and rinsing the rest... and then keep it braided at night and itll stay nice and pretty for longer.

Awesome, thanks! I was gonna ask you about washing it.. my friend at work said that if you put conditioner on the glue the extensions will come out.. so I guess I'll have to be careful about that. You don't find that yours slip out after washing it if you get any conditioner on the glue? Also, how hard can they be pulled on? I don't want to try, but you must have had some experience with this!
That braid trick sounds cool, it would be good to not have to straighten my hair all the time.
I'm really happy with how they look!! I added another row since that picture was taken and I want to get layers trimmed into them but that's about it! I can't believe I could have been doing this sooner.. I am so happy I 'took the plunge' and did this..
Thanks for taking the time to type out how to do it!

shampoo and conditioner... especially ones with any type of citrus oil or scent in them... will weaken the bond. so when shampooing just do that top section of your actual hair and only condition the bottom half of the extensions. i found that hot weather made the extensions fall out faster too... im guessing its related to sweat.
as for pulling on the extensions.. i wouldnt recommend pulling too hard. they can take some stress but i told the boyfriend to keep his hands off... less pulling the longer theyll last.

Okayyy, since 9 out of your 10 posts are telling us to try this site, and it's listed in your profile as your home page, you're outright advertising.

So, i'm outright asking you, are you offering us SW member's a discount?

Quiet as kept, you shouldn't be advertising anything on this site without paying for an advertisement page.

Of course, Cin is right as usual. However, I'm still giving myself a high-five for the bold ass hustle
