    Default apartment hunting-what to bring?

Ok, so I'm going apartment-hunting tomorrow(!), have 3 appointments set up. I've never done this before, so I'm just wondering what I should bring with me. SS card, bank statements for proof of income, my credit card in case they want a credit check, maybe my checkbook in case I fall in love with a place right then and there?? (All of the places I'm checking out are being rented out by private landlords, thanks to all the wonderful advice I've read here in DD )

    you should be fine !

However, if you want to be absolutely sure, leave your checkbook behind and bring about 3 grand in cash instead ... a 'bird in the hand' goes a long way to convincing any potential landlords who might still be reluctant to rent to a young 'self-employed' person.

UH, bring a friend too- my pretty best pal went apartment hunting alone & ended up at a place with the landlord rubbing his crotch in front of her.

^^Good advice from MadMaxine, and Melonie as well. I have bank accounts and credit cards and all that, but no pay stubs....just like many dancers. We got our current house in a very similar way. It was perfect for my family, and the LL tried the "well, lemme do a credit check, and of course there's a few other families interested blah blah blah." His tune changed very quickly when I produced the cash. We moved in less than a week later. Make sure you get a receipt, of course.

I told the guy for my apartment that I was willing to move in asap with fully paid deposits+rent+cat deposit. He did credit check me and of course I had no credit at the time and still gave me the apartment. Ive also mentioned Ive rented before by myself (which was true). When it came to him asking me what I did I told him that I was a part time model and shoot cordinator.
