Has anyone here read, "Bare" by Elizabeth Eaves?

It looked interesting...im reading it..but meh. its actualy not that exciting. not exactly a 'page-turner'. she doesnt really tell her story very exciting. blah.
some parts are interesting, but only once in a while.

Yes, I've read it. Not my favorite memoir. It's obvious that she's intelligent, but she comes across to me as having some sort of intellectual chip on her shoulder. Some of the stories she told were interesting, but I personally had a hard time getting past her tone - I felt like her entire premise was to prove that certain rare and exceptional strippers (like herself) can think critically about what they're doing and that those rare exceptions can express pensive, poignant and even political thoughts (and employ huge vocabularies while so doing); neither of which I found entertaining (I bet I would have loved it back when I took my Women's Studies 101 course, though). That's just my opinion, though . . .

She really lost me when she decribes sitting with a customer and blurting out "Do you know what Dante's definition of hell is?" The PL is all " . . . uh, wha?" She replies, "Proximity without intimacy."

Number one: Okay, SURE you just blurted that out one night in the titty bar. Wow, you're soooo misunderstood. No customer could possibly fathom your brilliance. Number two, if you actually did say that to a guy, I'm surprised he didn't laugh in your face and go get a dance from someone who wasn't a pretentious buzzkill. Ultimately, it was the total lack of humor in the book that killed it for me. A stripper memoir doesn't have to be slapstick comedy all the way through, but come on, lighten up. If you can't laugh at this job from time to time you'll go insane!

All of the above: again, just my opinion. Hey, I loved "Candy Girl" to death and others thought it was a silly piece o'crap. To each her own!

I bought "Bare" and read it just before becoming a dancer, and I agree with RoseWhite.

Yep. "Bare" was obnoxious in every way. I would not want to drink a beer with that girl.

i couldn't get past the first chapter for the same reason! the tone was so bland - i think someone else posted about strip city - i just started that and already i'm into it. way less pretentious - but obviously she's observant, intelligent and funny - without slamming it down the readers throat to make a point.
