All,
My usual haunts in midtown are sold out or frightfully expensive (approx. $500!). What the hell is going on in NYC next week? Anyhow, seeking suggestions for cool, more affordable places for two nights (7th & 8th).
Thanks in advance.

Wait, where's mid-town? My head went blank, lol.
Hmm. I know ppl who stayed in NJ hotels this wknd and took cabs to NY to hang out. That might work for you.

I don't know if it's your speed, but this is where I stay every time I go to Manhattan. I have rooms booked for the 18th and 19th, and I did that almost a month ago, so I don't know if they would have anything available. But the price is right!

waffles are just pancakes with little squares on them.
Jersey? No, no. While I adore my NJ-based pals, this is a business trip. I have to stay in midtown. (Say within 12 north or south blocks away from Grand Central.)
Oh, and my June 8 evening is wide open, all. Anyone for a few cocktails?![]()

There are window A/C units in every room, but last summer it was africa hot in the hallways. Still...I like it. 23rd and Park, for that price? I personally prefer funky little places with some character. The place I stay in Amsterdam is very similar.

Unless you have a private bath in your room, yup. Every room has a sink so you can wash your face and such, though. I haven't ever stayed in a non-bathroom room there, though. The place in Amsterdam is similar, as I said, and while it sounds skeevy...it's not a big deal. The common shower/bathroom is kept very clean. Plus, the tourists all get up and do their thing early so by the time my vampire ass rolls out of bed, it's been freshly cleaned and everyone else is gone. It doesn't work for everyone, I suppose, but it doesn't bother me at all.

i would pay the extra 10 or so bucks for a private bath
Yep, all the Ian Schrager hotels are ridiculously expensive, and are located in midtown.
What about Starwood's...W's??

When I was in NYC I stayed at the Double Tree.
Some Douchebag: "[Pimp C] 12:43 am: its true we got to stick together the black people on SW CK you is teh condoleeza of SW"
So I bit the bullet. I'm staying out by the airport (LGA) on my first night. Shrug. I arrive pretty late anyhow, so it works out.
I get to NYC once a month, on average, and this is the first time I can remember when I didn't stay in Manhattan.
