About 6 months ago there was a thread listed "I like you". I thought it was interesting to read a lot of responses about how this makes the dancers feel. So I thought I'd share my experience when I had the occasion to say this.
Well, I was in Vegas about 3 weeks ago and was at my favorite small club. I always find it interesting to watch dancers while the club is slow. There are about 6 dancers and 3 customers. I eat lunch, no one says a word, I drink a full beer and watch sports, not one dancer says a thing, and they just talk to themselves.
Into my second beer a young Hispanic gal sees me alone and asked it I'd like company, which I said yes. We talked for a while and I asked her why she didn't come over earlier, and she says, "I'm uncomfortable approaching people". I own a business that involves sales, so we talk about how she could do better. Then I notice we've been sitting together about 45 min, having a nice time and think about she has not asked me if I'd like a dance. I'm ok without a dance but she hasn't made a dime yet. I was prepared to tip her anyway, but asked her about a dance to see what she'd say. She says sure all excited, we talk about this and she’s not comfortable asking for the dances. I make her practice asking before I'll go back for a dance. We had a very nice time.
So after the dances she says, "I'm really glad I came over to meet you". I thought immediately of "I like you" from the thread and decided to say it and see her reaction. Now, I would never say this unless it was true, I wouldn’t just play a mind game and I don't mean anything more. So I say, "I'm glad you did too, I really like you".
I expected her to be kind of shocked, nope. She looks at me, gives me the biggest hug, and then plants a big kiss. Made my day!
Then she says she usually is nervous about approaching white guys. I just let it go, no more advise about qualifying your customers.
Just thought I'd share,
Rick
