    Default damn stage

    EWWWW GROSSSSS......

okay so i was on stage last night at my regular club and i hadnt used the pole yet cuz it was still early in my stage so i was doing mostly ground work but a part on my stage came up where the dj uses alot of strobe lights so i decided wtf lets do something different i was doing a lift on stage when i got to one section of the pole and it was COMPLETELY slimed up it was totaly gross. but anyways i got a phone call from my sister when i was there you know the typical pregnant woman calling and crying her eyes out i was like YES NOW I DONT HAVE TO TOUCH THAT NASTY ASS POLE AGAIN but needles to say she ran out of minutes on her calling card before we could finish talking and just in time for my next stage luck was not on my side that night so needles to say i avoided that damn pole all night like it was the plegue how the hell does a pole get that slimy anyways

well im outties peace ya`ll have a good day

Any residue on the pole can be very dangerous to a dancer attempting pole tricks. If I were you I would consider asking management or the housemom to place a sign in the dressing room about not using oils or lotions at work. You may also consider requesting that a towel be placed near the stage so the dancers can wipe down the pole at the start of their set. If all the above falls on deaf ears try taking your own hand towel up to the stage with you and wipe it down at the beginning of your set.

If I am planning to do pole work at a club, I use a napkin or towel to wipe it down myself before I start my routine. It's kinda weird at first, but it sure beats getting something weird on you or worse, falling and hurting yourself. I see girls do it all the time. Espeically the girls that are big pole dancers!

I have seen many a dancer in the past actually LICK THE POLE. Im sure they think it looks sexy but i just cant imagine how unhygenic that is, with girls sweating and rubbing themselves all over it all night.

ew thats sick! i think using an antibacterial cleaner would be a good idea... there is a sex toy cleaner that foams and kills all germs on contact its amazing, and it wont irritate your skin... it might be good to use a few squirts of something like that on a towel then wipe it down before you use it....

I have a question about using lotion - I use lotion daily and I don't want to stop because it's doing wonders for my poor old skin. I haven't started dancing yet -10 lbs to go, but I keep hearing about how gross lotion is at work! If I apply lotion at home before going to work, will it still be gross on the pole? It seems like it would be mostly dry by then, right?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

i apply before i go to work, sassy, and i don't have any problems with my lotion coming off at work. unless you use baby oil, its safe to apply before work. just give yourself 30 minutes before you touch the stage after applying.

Maybe use the lotion primarily in the morning or after work, and only use a small amount before work, which should be absorbed well before you use the pole.

Rubbing alcohol is what we generally use, and I try to keep a bottle of it and a clean towel in the booth for when it's needed...

Good luck, SassyMom, I envy your DJ being able to work with a dancer who can quote Chaucer, lol...

Lotion fresh out of the shower; then you're not greasy by the time you get to work and do your first set.

There should totally be a towel and cleaner handy for the pole in a place where it's used a lot. Even if it's just sweat from the previous dancer's hands it can get slicked up easily. I am personally a fan of the once-an-hour stage cleaning when the waitress hops up there to do a quick floor mop, mirror-cleaning, and pole wipedown as well but I haven't seen this lately.

This is only practical if you work in a club where you only do one or two sets per shift but another trick is to not use the pole until you take something off. At that point you can use your costume to wipe down the pole. Ofcourse you will want to switch costumes after your set.

Thanks Piper, DJoser and Susan - I use the lotion after I shower. I plan on doing most of my makeup and hair at home, so that should be plenty of time for it to dry completely.

Just for Djoser - "You say some men desire us for wealth, some for our shapeliness, and some for our beauty: some want a woman because she can sing or dance, some because she is well-bred and flirtatious; some like her hands and her graceful arms; thus we all go to the devil by your account. You say no one can keep a castle wall when it is assailed all around for so long a time." from the Wife of Bath's tale...

I have to admit I prefer the Romantic poets though...
