    Default Strippers > Drug Dealers??

Today I got into a conversation with my brother about stripping. I haven't told him that I'm dancing, but the conversation just ended up there and I want to get an idea of his feelings towards it.

Now, my brother is usually a fairly open-minded individual with several liberal leanings (though he has his religious/conservative moments too). So I was shocked when he suggested that Strippers were more socially and morally reprehensible than drug dealers. This was provided that the dealers sold only pot, but still! He said that Strippers 'lcontribute/lead to worse things', such as 'porn addiction', than drug dealers.

I tried to ration with him- tried telling him that drugs lead to violence, crime, addiction etc. but I was too aghast to put up a decent argument as to why these things are WORSE than arousal or 'porn-addiction'.

Mulling it over, I became very interested in hearing the opinions of this community on the subject. Plus I wanted to vent.

    Thoughts?

"Porn addiction"? Puh-leeze. The only thing that strippers and pot dealers have in common is that both are ostracized and often imprisoned for selling a perfectly harmless product.

To me that's a bit of a tricky construction. Like who is worse? People who play basketball or people who play baseball? It's implicitly assuming that they are both, to some degree, bad.

Oh, so me dancing for a man to entertain him is the same disgusting equivalent of getting women turned into crackheads, which produce crackbabies, which produce more destitute and depressed people who many times turn into criminals, thus perpetuating an endless cycle of hopelessness, illiteracy, and despair?

Get the fuck outta here with that nonsense. I don't see anyone walking the street at 3 in the morning offering to suck some stranger's dick so he can come look at my titties. Que estupidez!!!

Plus there's a huge difference, one is a totally legal, legitimate job and the other is totally illegal and will land you in jail. The only time you'll go to jail when stripping is providing extras (or it being election time and someone wanting to be a dick and makeup some crap) but if you're caught dealing drugs, there's always a guarantee that you'll go to jail, no questions asked! Tell your brother there's a huge difference! And stripping doesn't hurt anyone, doesn't hurt children, doesn't ruin people's lives like drugs do. Sorry, but hearing things like that just makes me mad! We are entertainers, I don't see any difference in what we do and what all the actors in Hollywood do. Actually many Hollywood actors have done much worse things than us strippers do, all we do is dance topless or naked, BIG WOOP!!!!!!

^^^ I use that same analogy! We don't do anything that actors don't do. In fact, having worked with many of them, I'd say they're more fucked up and give up more than us. Ever read Porno, by Irvine Welsh? (It's the sequel to his Trainspotting.) One of the characters says that sex for money is just that. But selling your soul, your emotions, baring your inner being on camera the way actors do - THAT's real prostitution. THAT is selling yourself.

Yes, it hard isn't it. These stereotype have lead me to live a somewhat parallel life. It's so unfortunate. My guy friends think that dancers use guys and stuff. I personally would rather make my own money then use a guy to get a free meal or housing from them. And I met a lot of dancers that feel the same way. Will the stereotypes ever go away? Then again, people are more likely to assume things and make things up about things that they do not understand.

It certainly doesn't rise to the level of drugs but I know a few guys whose involvement with strip clubs really made a mess of their finances. In that regard, it is not a whole lot different . They can become adicted to the dances or a certain girl. It may not happen often but it does happen, and men with children to support would not be immune.

IMHO, your brother may have told you that because... Well, he's having a conversation with his SISTER! He may not think about stripping so severely... It might have been more of a context thing... whether he knew it or not.

Strippers ARE worse than drug dealers. At least coke PREVENTS an erection. When you go home, you don't have to masturbate after coke.

Excuse me? That has nothing to do with true chemical addiction. That has something to do with a lack of self restraint. Not our problem.

Many of you may have seen my posts about how I often feel guilty, dancing for custies who cant afford it,(financially or emotionally) HOWEVER at the end of the day they are choosing to come to me, and Im not deliberately hoping theyll get hooked, to ensure more $$$ come my way.

    1. People are addicted to all kinds of destructive behaviors. Even behaviors that seem healthy on the surface, like exercise or work.

    2. Your brother's opinion is just that, his opinion. It is probably based in ignorance and an upbringing teaching him that sexually liberated women are not desireable. It also sounds like he went a bit overboard to try and impress you with his revulsion with strippers and sex workers. Who is he really trying to convince?

I had a relative say something like that to me before. '"I'd be more comfortable with you being a drug pusher, as least you would be able keep your clothes on." I was flabbergasted, too. My response? "Yeah, I'd probably make more money. You're kids are in high school, right? I could get them working for me." Okay, that idea shut him up.

People frequently don't think before speaking, especially if they are emotional or upset about a subject. Don't take it too personal.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

I can think of a number of things that guys could get involved with that could make a mess of their finances. Many of them perfectly condoned if not celebrated by mainstream society.

He has his suspicions that you are dancing.

That is prob why he is saying what he is saying. He is trying to make an impression on you.

I thought about that, but he knows that I have a friend who dances. So he'd just chalk my reaction up to that.

Very true--casinos regularly welcome gambling addicts (some of the worst addicts out there--and there is no easier way to blow money!).

Bars all over the USA regularly serve alcoholics without any hesitation at all--and alcohol causes far more monetary and health damage than any other mind-altering substance, as I have said before here many times.

I think this comes back to that age old mentality that sex and porn are taboo and wrong. It's becoming a more open topic, but some people are still set in the old ways of thinking that sexual things are bad.
