Hi everyone. This is my first post, but I discovered SW about two months ago and have been visiting it regularly since. It has been indescribably helpful to me as I worked on making the transition to being a (first-time) dancer.
I am rather mystified by my current situation and wondered if anyone had any thoughts that might help me out. I do apologize in advance that this post is so long, but it's a bit of a long story and I just want to make sure I explain the situation clearly. I got hired at a club about a month ago. I worked a Saturday night and then a Monday night. I told the manager my first night (Saturday) that I had to be out of town the following weekend for my sister's wedding and would be back the next Monday and would be happy to work that night.
I reminded them of that on the Monday I worked, and at first I was told by the scheduler that that was fine; later, the manager told me to call her before I came the next Monday to make sure she didn't have too many girls that night. When I called, she told me not to come in as the schedule was full for the entire week and to call back the next week, at which time she would give me my scheduled days. I was a little surprised, but I did as she asked and called back the next week. She told me again the schedule was full and added that there were some dancers coming back from hiatus that got to get on the schedule first. (I should point out that of course I understand seniority and that the dancers that they know will certainly get priority, and I have no problem whatsoever with that if that is indeed what is going on.) I was again surprised by this, and I asked her (politely) if I still worked there. She said yes but that I would just have to keep calling her until the schedule opens up.
So I called her again a little while ago, and she relayed a message through the person that answered that the schedule was still full. So that's three weeks that I haven't been on the schedule. At this point I'm quite worried that they are not being straight with me and that I possibly don't have a job there anymore, but I honestly don't understand why they don't just tell me that. Or could it be that they're penalizing me for having to go out of town the weekend after I started? I don't think I did anything wrong on the two nights I worked...in truth, I really miss it and want to go back.Is it possible that I'm being told the truth and that the schedule really is full? I am not sure what to do at this point and don't know enough about the industry to know if this scenario is common or if it's obvious that they are trying to send me a message.
I'm sorry again about how long this is. Input is welcome, and thanks very much in advance -- and for all the valuable information on this site in general.
