    Default blood tests

does anyone know if hiv or aids can be detected when blood is taken for any other reason other then specifically testing for the virus? ive never had a specific hiv test, although i have been to my gyno and had a blood test for herpes and other std's in the past year.

Well HIV/AIDS can be detected through blood. They have to know what to test for in order to find it. Many things can be deteced through blood.

You need to have a specific test done. They can do an aids test at the same time as the other tests, but if they aren't looking for it, odds are they aren't going to find it. So ask for one next time

They won't test the blood for hiv unless the doctor specifies it. If they take a sample of blood, they can do multiple tests on it. However, I believe the blood sample is only good for a day or so, and then they would need a new sample to perform additional tests.

Now you can get an HIV/AIDS test w/o a blood test. They put a little thing in your mouth. The taste is somewhat unpleasant, but it's not that bad. Better than a needle.

You need to have a specific one done looking for antibodies to the virus that your body will be producing if you have HIV.
