That's disappointing to hear. I was looking forward to this one. I am a horror movie buff but I like the good scary classics not the teen slasher flicks! So is it anything like the original?
"Go Confidently in the Direction of Your Dreams...Live the Life You Have Imagined" -- Henry David Thoreau
"You Will Be Successful in Business and Married Life" -- Fortune Cookie

I've never seen the original, but i'm assuming it's good from what I hear. I don't like those teen garbage flicks either, that shit is getting so damed over rated. It's the same logic. And I love horror movies. Last good horror movie I saw, I think it was in the 80's when I was a kid.
The original one was good in its time, startling at times, intense at times. I saw it on the first release. It had a shock value, too, that has kinda faded with the splatter emphasis since then.
I am no more interested in a shot-for-shot remake of the film than I was for the remake of "Psycho."
I knew it was gonna suck.. Bleh. I said it before, I'll say it again---They should NOT have remade it. That kid that they cast as Damien is fugly and creepy looking. The original Damien was cute, freckly and innocent looking. Liev is okay, but they could've found a better "Mom" for Damien. I can't stand Julia Stiles--not sure what it is about her, but I don't like her.
Sorry you wasted your money, Vy.
Rent (or buy.. it's cheap enough at Walmart) the original though---as well as the 3 sequels. You'll fall in love with Damien in "The Final Conflict" (The 3rd Movie). He's a grown up, and played by Sam Neill. Totally yummy!
The 2nd movie is where Damien finds out who and what he is. He's in his teens I believe.
The Awakening (The 4th Movie) is great as well---although it never made it to theaters. It was a made-for-TV sequel. But, that is where we got Delia's name from. Heh. She was Damien's daughter.
The original is worth seeing. I think it has been on AMC and may be again. What makes it work is the stature of Gregory Peck. He plays a powerful man who doesn't suffer fools gladly. But gradually, he is forced to deal with a power greater than himself, and then his fear sets in.
All modern horror and sci-fi movies that have major stars in them owe a debt of gratitude to Charlton Heston, who may have paved the way for marquis names taking "B" type roles when he did Planet of the Apes, The Omega Man, and Soylent Green. Since then, many Oscar winners have tried their hand at "scary" movies.![]()
Totally agree about Gregory Peck. He played the part well and set the bar so high that no one can touch it. I liked Lee Remick as well. Julia is no Lee Remick.
You're right about AMC. I'd forgotten about that since I've been cable-less. They also show "The Awakening" on there occasionally.
