    Smiley 5-htp

    After hearing about 5-HTP on this forum, I've decided to start. I got some at Walgreen's today. I hope this works. I've had depression since I was 12 and most of the prescription meds I've taken have made me feel like a zombie. I was put on Paxil when I was 15 years old, before they found out that it makes teens suicidal. Sick thing is, my parents WANTED me to be on it because it "calmed me down." Assholes. I'll update y'all about how it goes.

    I picked up a bottle of this yesterday..hope it works. I think it helped me sleep better last night.

    How much are you taking?

    50 mg a day. You know I could tell a difference the first day (yesterday) too and I don't think it was a placebo effect. I was LMAO to Conan and then went to sleep easily.

    I took 5-HTP to get over my addiction to meth... a friend of mine said it'd work. Ever look at the ingredients? It's pretty much only a sleep aid. o.O;

    I take this brand () which works good for me. I used to have serious depression & anxiety, I am a lot better now. Although I'm not really sure if it really was 100% because of that or my b/f's support..it's easier to overcome your problems if you have help/support. Although I DO feel a lot calmer on nights when I take 5-htp.

    I used to take it in my teenage-raver-ecstacy days. It helped get over the next day blues from taking the ecstacy. I've been having alot of anxiety lately, maybe I should try out the 5-HTP again.

    It's not just a sleep aid, it's calming/replaces your serotonin. A lot of people find it helps their depression.

    I find I'm not sleepy/drowsy from it, but when I do sleep, I sleep very deeply though I usually have no sleep problems.

    It's like a little raincloud lifted when I started taking it. I'm taking about 150 mg a day. Glad to see it's helped some of you ladies

    Anyone taking 5-htp. it's *****VERY IMPORTANT**** that you take a niacin supplement. Generally, 5-htp has few side effects, unfortunately one of them is liver damage if you don't take niacin. You'll want to take your niacin before bed with a small snack, and make sure you get the 'no-flush' kind or it can be a bit uncomfortable.

    To aid in absorbtion of 5-htp, you really should also be taking an extra b-vitamin supplement, too. It won't hurt you not to take it, but it will help you see more consistent and better results if you do.

    How much niacin? I'm taking a multi and it has 70 mg (niacinamide)

    Also, am I supposed to take the B with the 5-htp?

    Sweet! Going to GNC today to get my multi-vitamin (I'm sick), and ended up getting talked into the 5HTP. Made me want to start taking my Nourishair and Biotin again (Hair and nail growth) so I am covered on the Niacin!

    ***Sorry to be flooding the Body Business with 5htp threads, but I searched and have different questions/comments according to what each thread says. Perhaps if the moderators have the energy, we can combine some of the 5HTP threads together?
