Well the whole book is worth its weight in diamonds I think. I know there's been a thread before on "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Carnegie (as recommended by Dancerwealth- thank you!!). This one tip that i used last night- I was shocked how well it worked.
This one guy, very drunk and not very rational, tried to rip me off. After three dances he tried to only pay me $40, then $50. I said "No, three dances, that's sixty dollars please". I saw in his hand he had enough cash, but he was just all out refusing. I started to say "Now don't make me get my manager" and "you really need to pay me what you owe". Not working of course, and I could tell he was gonna push past me and scram any second.
Then I remembered that tip "people are only interested in their own desires...they will only do things they WANT to do". So I tried to think up a way to word what I was saying to make it in HIS best interest. I said "you should really pay me the full amount, because if you don't, it will be nearly impossible for you to get another dance here again. I will have to tell all the other girls you don't pay. And it will also be really hard for you to get any drinks or anything either, because I'll have to tell the waitresses and bartenders the same thing. You want to have more dances and come here again, right?".
Then poof, he paid me. I was shocked, he was so stubborn before. What's more, he was all nice about it. He left me very amicably (for a very drunk guy). So maybe that method is common sense, but I was so happy with it. The way to never get ripped off again!
