Default why is it never enough?

for some reason, no matter how much i make, i am always dissatisfied at the end of the night. i always feel like i could have more, or that i just got lucky making the money i did make.

i'm not sure why though, because, while it's a tough are to make money, i always do reasonably well. a lot better than i would at a regular full time job. and i really enjoy the work. so i should be happy, right?

does anyone else feel this way? why do i always want more??

i think because our income basically has no limit, we unconsiously get a little greedy...think of it as this- u make more (on average) than most people make for a 2 week check! be grateful for the money ur bringing home!

i actually do the same thing sometimes! i get home, count my money, and even if its like
700$, sometimes i think "man i coulda had 800.." but our work is unique because WE control our income! if u want more money, go work some more! dont be so hard on yourself...
i usually set a goal for myself each day i work. when i make my goal, i take it easy the rest of the day (still working of course) but i dont like overworking myself. if u make ur goal each day at work, u shouldnt be dissapointed!

I have this problem, too! My bank account is growing, I'm making decent money on a consistent basis, but I feel like I'm broke! And I feel like I work so hard that I should be making more...my best friend/roomie has to give me reality checks on a nearly nightly basis. And still, the next night, I'm sighing, "I only made [insert pretty good amount here] tonight." He's like, "Oh only [same amount]? Shuddit!" And then I think of the days back in San Francisco when I was truly struggling...

I don't think that's such a bad thing - it keeps you motivated to keep working, and hopefully saving. Just remind yourself now and then how much more you're making than you were before, how much more you make than the average person, and how much more you make than you probably could in a regular job at this time.

I feel the same way. I always think there was something I could have done to make more.

Me too!!!! Wow, I thought it was just me because I'm just starting out. Like when I get home and I count my money I think, man if I hadn't talked to this customer and instead talked to this other customer I could've made so much more or if I had known this customer was a bigger spender and had focused more on him than this other then I could've made more. I think it's a good thing to be this way though because it helps us not settle and helps us want to keep working harder for more and more. I dont' think it's being greedy, I think it's wanting to maximize our earning potential. Hey, we all know that you can't still be 70 years old and still be doing this so I think if you focus as hard as you can on making as much as you can while you can then the more you'll have saved up for your future.

Every month I set a goal... it's like "Ok, this month I want to average (this much) a shift." This month, every shift I've definitely gone past that goal, and I'm just looking forward to next month when I can double that goal and hit a brand new one! It means I'm always topping my current goals and thinking ahead to excelling in the future.... which makes all of those "Hey, that was a good nights" more satisfying because I apply it toward the future.

We're women. Is it ever enough?! Not for me. I always think: More $$$ or I can do better than that! It's crazy when I walk out w/ 300$ in a 6hr. period of time. I still think that sux. What! I only made 300 tonight!

I tend to break it down by the hour. Even on a bad night (I think on a day shift the worse I'd do would be $20 an hour, night time the worse I'd do would be $40 an hour) I'd compare my hourly to what a dayjob would be for me. Normally I have a day job too so I have some balance, and it helps to compare, well....I only made $8-14 an hour at this job, so it really isn't that bad. Helps to put a positive spin on it so you don't get so dispirited that you don't want to work.
Then it helps to have quick financial goals, like I psyche myself up for every thousand I put in my savings. I'll say to myself, "okay, you're at x right now, and I'd really like to get up to y this week. I worked yesterday and it was kind of crap at $200 but you're going to make it to y."

Then...it also helps with the budgeting thing. Don't be the girl that needs new outfits. Trade or buy rarely and when you do, buy on sale. Pay all your bills ahead of time if you can so you won't be the type who tries (and often fails) to make rent days before it's due. So when you do only make x amount in one night, and you're kind of disappointed with it, you know that the amount is your gravy. If it's gravy, it's gravy. Be thankful, change your mindset so you know that you SHOULD be grateful and hush up after maybe a two minute bitch session.

I feel that way all the time. In fact, I was saying that to my mom just yesterday. I try so hard to remind myself that I was doing a lot worse at one point in my life, and I could go back to that and any moment.

Trust me miss peach. She didn't mean it that way. You can't *hear it* but I'm sure it was meant to be supportive.

I think its a good thing to always reach for more. I just read an article which made the point that if you are content at being "good" at something, you will never push yourself to be your best.
