    Default Flordia in Sept?

So my bf and I are thinking of going to Fl the last week of Sept for my bday. I know its still hurricane season but generally how bad is it usually? We want to go to Tampa. I know its a silly question but im just wondering if its worth the trip or should we just go somewhere else?

Why would you want to go to Florida? It's a horrible place. Hurricane season is the best thing it's got going for it; when hurricanes are blowing, you don't get sunburned or have six-inch cockroaches flying into your hair or have drunken children driving down the wrong side of the expressway. The governor is Jeb Bush and that should tell you all you need to know about Florida. There are much nicer beaches in other states.

Well its either Flordia or the dominican... we cant decide. I kinda wanna do Flordia for the stupid touristy stuff like Busch Gardens n stuff... But hell id be happy at the Dominican just laying on a beach drinking all day

I'm not much for hot sun and relentless beaches, but the DR does sound pleasant. I'd also like to check out the Caymans, in that regard. My one exception to my strong dislike of Florida... I like the Keys, especially Key Largo. For a tourist trap it's quite nice and the roaches there stay out of my way.

LoL Yek my main reason for wanting to sun bathe on a beach is because well... I live in Canada... we dont have REAL beaches. Well I think BC does but not what I want. I want to bake myself in the sun on a white sand beach and just forget about life for a week. But I kinda wanna get stuck doing touristy things like swimming with dolphines and riding rollar coasters and all dat stuff. Bah I cant wait for vacation... wait didnt I just have one? Damn I need another.

I'd love to see you come down to Florida (then I might get to meet you), and I wouldn't worry too much about hurricanes, though if your timing was bad you could have your vacation ruined by one.

But the tourist attractions are overrated--it's mostly standing in big lines with fat tourists and kids screaming for souvenirs.

Keep me posted if you do decide to come down, though, I'll try to meet you and your boyfriend (if I still live in Florida in september, lol).

Oh come on yek, the roaches aren't THAT bad. 4-5", tops.

I'm a born and raised Floridian, so I'm partial. September is hot, and the middle of hurricane season, but that shouldn't stop you unless there are storms brewing in the gulf.

I go to Florida rather often, and I generally do in the september time frame. God, I remember when I used to go monthly. Actually, I like >just< got back, like a month ago.

I wouldn't really worry too much Cally. You can never perfectly predict when/how the weather is going to be. It can thunderstorm for 4 minutes and pass on by. What part of florida are you looking at going?

Glad I'm not the only one.

IMO, the best vacation spot in the USA is Vermont. Give me green mountains over blistering beaches any day!

I wouldn't mind heading down that way myself, but I'd just as soon avoid the entire Southeastern U.S. during hurricane season. Them evacuations can be a biatch.

Need a beach? How about Cali, Cally? Although you may have to go to Sea World to see a dolphin, and then there's that whole wildfire thing.

well to be honest. sept is the height of hurricane season. i live at the beach (cocoa beach east coast) and i never see roaches ( so blah on you yek)
bush gardens is fun and not just rides and such. the beaches are over 35 mins from tampa . well the gulf beaches that is. tampa does have a beach or two but it's tampa bay and not to nice. on the plus side tampa doesnt get direct hits often nor are there many evacuations there either. i grew up there and lived there during the 2004 season with charlie and all thoses storms. i lived right by tampa bay and did not get evacuated.
ybor city is the entertainment district. two streets full of nightclubs. of course there are tons of adult entertainment places.

orlando is only and hour away if you want to do those attractions

There isn't a building in Miami that doesn't have roaches. DOn't know about Cocoa Beach...My intimacy with it only goes as far as lacrosse camp in 1991.

But Miami, yeah. Thet're everywhere. But people here call them "palmetto bugs". LOL

I go down to the Keys every year in September. Only once have we had to delay our vacation due to hurricanes, and that was a two day deotur to Myrtle Beach.

The good thing about the Keys in September is it's still the off season so it's not as crowded anf the rates are much cheaper than in season. It is really fucking hot though!

i'm in tampa. hurricane season is supposed to be mostly over by then, but we've had storms well into september before. luckily, most hotels won't charge you if you cancel 24 hours in advance, and you would have plenty of warning to do that if a hurricane was comming. as far as vacationing here goes... i -hate- living here... but i've been here for 27 years and i'm kind of "over it". tampa can be a fun place to visit though. it's completely possible to have a good time. i just don't recommend moving here. if you do decide to come down let me know (msg me) and i can give you advice on restaurants/clubs/beaches/touristystuff/etc oh and, to answer your question, you don't need a license to dance here. although they ARE trying to make it that way, i wouldn't worry about it for at least another year. also, late september was busy last year so it might wind up being a good time to work here.
