yea i do that too sometimes...it is gross! maybe u should ask them what they use to clean their beds...if u still dont feel comfortable, some tanning beds have little cubby/lockers things where u can keep ur lotion and stuff at. maybe u could keep ur own sanitizer there and clean ur bed each time before u lay in it.
i know a girl that got some kinda skin fungus (EWW) from a tanning bed. it is a good idea to ask questions before u get a membership, or keep ur own sanitizer.
eww that's gross...next time check the bed & make them clean it if you think it's dirty. I used to go to Tan Factory & I could swear the bed was dirty once so I told the idiot kid working the desk & he looked at me funny, gave me an attitude and said it was clean but it really wasn't, what an asshole. I never go there anymore.
Where did you go tanning at?
When you tan without lotion, you arent using a scented product. You will naturally smell funny.I know what you are talking about.I think its one of the reasons they call it baking yourself. Its like you are cooking your skin.If you notice on some of the lotion's bottles it says it will help with tanning odor or something like that.I think you can ask for the cleaner and an extra towel and redo the cleaning yourself.Places around here they have that in the rooms anyways.Try itanning without lotion again after you cleaned it and see if its the same.good luck
I always took my own cleaner...LOL...and cleaned the bed again before I got in. I'm a germ freak, too.
yeah i hate that stinky tan smell. ew.
and to think of laying in other peoples sweat is aweful, i try to block it out.
Tanning salon fungus is very common! Cleaning with your own stuff is a good idea. But, I don't think antibacterial cleansers do much aganst fungus.
If you have the fungus, you will see it as pale spots on your skin that just won't tan. I went to tanning booths for 10 years and got the fungus a few times from different salons. It never itched or had any other symptoms other than the un-tanned spots. An over the counter antifungal cream will take care of the prob if you have it.
I wonder if there is any cleaner that is effective against fungi?
Use a stand up tan, this way only your feet touch anything potentially germy. My bf hates lotion and never uses it when he tans, he still smells coconutty and "baked" afterwards. Alot of that smell is from the actual tanning and not from the lotion.
They always tell me the bed is clean. I trust them; I'm a trusting soul. (And it's a very un-busy facility.)
Besides, I'm scared of the stand-up tanning units, which I hear are more intense, radiation-wise. I burn at 11 minutes as it is!

OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS??? I have spots like thatOh I'm totally skeeved out now.

I believe you Dottie and you have my support
^^^ Spots like that can be from pressure points too (where there is pressure on your skin from in being in contact with the bed). I lay on my stomach half the time, and my back the other half, because otherwise I get big white spots near both of my shoulder blades.
Anyway, I'm allergic to whatever they use to clean the beds, so I asked them if it would be ok if I used my own cleaner before I hopped in, and they said it would be fine. They have a shelf for everyone's tanning lotion, and I keep my bottle of cleaner there also.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.

I have one untanned spot, but it happens all the time.. And is itsy bitsy
tanning lotion with tingler does the same to me..
as for dirty beds, I love my place, it is a day spa with only two beds, I know the owners so I turn them on myself and if I wanted to wash them again, they would let me..
never had any funny smells, thank goodness! I go there to relax (and tan) and that would just stress me out.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..
you generally need a special formula b/c other cleaners will ruin the acrylics you can probably do a search for it on the internet. i know when i worked at a tanning salon you just added a small amount of solution to water in a spray bottle
I just had them give me my own "stash" of the solution they used. But, I was friends with the girls at the tanning salon...so...Originally Posted by Guenevere
yeah I think it does have to be a specific kind of cleanser.
I remember when I used the tanning bed at my apartment complex one day and they had a different type of cleaning solution that time...it didn't really come entirely off the bed it just sorta kept spreading around, so i cleaned it the best i could and afterwards my left arm got a really really bad burn on it (from the cleaning solution i think) & it hurt like a bitch!! The burn was about 6 inches long 2 inches wide on my upper arm, I had thousands of tiny little holes that turned into scabs the next day. wtf? I think it was a chemical burn so yes, be careful when chosing the right stuff to clean the tanning bed with.
