Apparently GoDaddy.com is becoming a "Who's your daddy" .com holding sites hostage unless some extortive "administrative fee" is paid.

I'm not real concerned personally since my site isn't registered with a Russian company, but I did have some serious spoofing/spamming problems which I've discussed with them. Overall I love GoDaddy so I hope they didn't do this lightly.

actually the driving force behind this is the Spamhaus blacklisting service. If a website winds up on their list (which mine did once upon a time), the process of convincing Spamhaus to remove it and/or reconfiguring server IP's to get around it can be a major ordeal. I would guess that GoDaddy is simply trying to recover their actual cost of tech support labor.
You all need to give it a little closer reading over on what the consequences are for sites that registrars decide what content they like and what content they don't like.
Other people have also mentioned in the comment area they have been having problems with godaddy also.
This is simply a YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED posting.
It's actually fairly common to have a domain attacked. Someone is using my corporate domain to send bulk e-mail. I have a mail forwarder on the domain, so all my mail to that domain goes to my ISP.
A couple of weeks ago my ISP disabled my e-mail, because of the number of 'undeliverable mail' responses I was getting back. Talk about a PITA!
I've since redirected mail to yahoo, because they don't detect abuse like my ISP does. I still have to dig up mail headers from the offending e-mails, so my ISP can pursue the idiots.
Oh well, there's not much I can do about it...

I'm thinking about putting up a site myself, although it's probably too much work and I need to read Cervantes' "Don Quixote" once again to better understand what I'd be getting myself into with this project.
Anyway, which webhost(s) would any of you recommend for a political website seeking a constitutional amendment which will remove all special priviledges from the House and the Senate? And preferably, the President as well, when the President signs legislation from the Congress. I.e., you would be allowed to sue any senator or house member who votes "aye" for any legislation which causes you personal/financial damage of some type, along with any President who signs such legislation.
As an example from a number of years ago, when the "luxury tax" was imposed, a lot of middle-class people employed building ships lost their jobs due to the effects diretly attributable to the imposition of the luxury tax. If we actually had a fair and honest government, those employees of the shipyards who lost their jobs would have been able to sue those Representatives and Senators who voted in the affirmative for the luxury tax.
Returning to my original question, would I be better off, if I do go through with this project, to choose a webhost in some other country? Thanks!
