Default More for dancers who want to be teachers

Gal who had artistic topless photos taken fighting for her job.

(I am just flabbergasted at these girls who think they can strip and then walk into an elementary school to start teaching. Am I the only one who reads those notes and thinks "She is kinda not living in reality....")

Well, for one, I have no desire to teach. I hate kids.

For another, I understand why perhaps the school board wouldn't want to find out their new hire used to dance at Bob's GoGo Shack, but why are you personally flabbergasted that a woman would go from stripping to teaching?

It happens, more than you would think, because you only hear about the ones who get busted . . . I can think of at least three dancers I worked with who teach now, none of whom were.

Well, they can - but it is going to be temporary until someone finds out and then they get kicked out of the school - I mean there are going to be the bible thumpers but you have the progressive's against ya too.

My mom is a feminist who use to work in a battered women's home. She wouldn't let my sister watch "Gone With The Wind" LOL! My ex-gf's brother specifically told his daughter "I expect you to be an engineer or biotechnician" expressly after HIS mother told HIS daughter maybe she can join the cheerleader squad to be "popular" with the boys "going somewhere." (It was quite the moment.)

What's the point? They don't want their daughters to make it through life dependent on how much men like them by winking and flirting their way through life. What is the first thought in their mind when they find out a teacher is an ex-stripper - who's means of earning is basically winking, flirting, and flat out lying to men about how much they like them?

"Is she in-directly teaching my girl she can get by on a pair of boobs and flirting? That she doesn't need to study math and science as much as she needs to study Cosmo for how to attract boys/men to take care of her?"

(Sure it becomes more unlikely as the years go by - but these days more and more information is being collected into dossier's that is being shared among more and more people. Hell, strip club patrons can be found out by going to these bible thumper web sites where they take pictures of them in and out of the club. It is only a matter of time before the girls are targetted. Add to that the culture is definitely becoming more tabloid in nature.)

People get pretty funky when it comes to their kids and who they leave them with.

^^^ unfortunately, this is a natural outgrowth of the Hollywood Stereotype, the Duke dancer rape case, and countless other media reports / portrayals of 'strippers' as lying, thieving, drug addicted whores who are capable of saying or doing anything in their own self-interest. Potential employers concerned with public image i.e. school systems, banks, health care, civil service, you name it, are likely to cover their own butts against the possibility that the 'stripper' stereotype might actually be true in regard to employees / applicants with a previous history of exotic dancing. As a more socially conservative attitude descends on various parts of the USA, even a few nude pictures are apparently now sufficient to place the girl on the 'questionable morals / integrity' list.

In the case of the Texas art teacher, at least she managed to get hired first. These days, any applicant for a 'sensitive' job is probably going to be the subject of a fairly thorough background investigation. Thus having a 'dancer's license' as part of the public record is now likely to prevent girls from ever being hired for 'sensitive' jobs in the first place ... as the potential employer is likely to simply put her employment application at the bottom of the pile as a butt covering measure against the future possibility that an embarrasing incident might develop should she be hired.

Unless I'm reading his post incorrectly, I don't get the impression D's surprised about the "going from stripping to teaching" concept - just the "being surprised anyone (i.e., School Board, parents, etc.) would have a problem with a Teacher whose background includes dancing" aspect of same. And, to the extent that's the case, I share in his astonishment at their utter naietivity! Given the numerous posts here concerning the stereotypical and generally derogatory and/or negative views of the overwhelming majority of society re the entire industry in general and, more importantly, dancers in particular, how can it possibly come as a surprise to anyone who's danced that having a past which includes working as a dancer will cause problems when it comes to employment in at least a few other areas... such as teaching.
