    Default Oh geeezz!!

So I'm applying to be a notary public in Washington - already sent and paid for the required bond, only to find out I have to have three "endorser" signatures on my application. The 3 people have to be not only residents of the state of Washington, but registered voters. Now, being a newcomer and not knowing anyone there, how the hell am I supposed to get 3 registered voters to sign my damn application??? I don't wanna just forget it, because 1) I want/need the certification and 2) I've already paid for the bond and don't want to waste the money. Grrrrr!!!

Oh, how hard can that be? Just ask three people in your new apartment complex. Or ask the guys that come to turn on the gas. It's Seattle, you could get it done in three minutes on the street.

Go to a bank, ask the employees there. They will do it.

The "endorsers" would be signing to attest that they believe I am "a person of integrity and good moral character, and capable of performing notarial acts". I dunno, but I don't imagine a lot of people would sign something like that for a stranger. And they have to be registered voters, not just anyone off the street...

Go to the police station then.. there are plenty of places to go.

This is going to sound harsh.. but it seems like you are trying to find a reason to just say "fuck it". If it takes you all damn day to get 3 signatures, it will be worth it. Go tomorrow and hussle those sig's.

Eheh. I have never been one to have to look for a reason to say "fuck it". I either just do it or toss it. In this case I'm just really trying to figure out how to get this done - I know I would not give a stranger on the street the time of day if they were asking for this type of signature. I'd think they're fucken crazy, so by the same token, I imagine I'd get a similar reaction if I asked for this from strangers.

I can get bf to sign for me - he'll just have to register to vote. And he has a few friends there, but dunno 1) if they're registered to vote and 2) if they would sign for me. I'd be surprised if they would. They've never met me, and this may seem strange to you, but alot of people don't like signing OFFICIAL documents attesting to the moral character of a STRANGER.

I will figure it out and get it done. Was just looking for ideas I may not have thought of, and bitching about the required hoop-jumping, which is quite a bit more annoying than the procedure in AZ.

You could easily get three people if you posted a simple ad on craigslist. Not in the personals or anything...like community or something. Just say your goal in life right now is to be a notary public and that you need three registered voters.

Do they have to be in any specific field, i just moved back to Washington, not a registered voter yet, don't even have my a Washington ID yet, but i'm working on it.

Are you in Washington now? If you just need average washington residents, I'd be able to help you out, but i don't know what part of Washington you're in, or are going to be in.

But i may be able to find some people for you

I'll be in Seattle, arriving June 28. I'm just getting a little jump on the notary application by buying the required bond now. I figure it will be arriving in the mail around the time I arrive, then I can get my signatures and send off the application.

The signatures have to be from registered voters, not just residents.

Why is it so hard to find three people registered to vote? Why does this requirement seem to come as a surprise? Surely you read the statute before you made application

Just out of curiousity Bridgette - what made you decide to be a notary? I know nothing about it, except for a King of Queens episode where Carrie's dad was trying to do it. Is it $$$?

I don't know about Washington, but here in Illinois there's really no money in it. Here you can only charge people a few dollars per document. I don't remember how much it is because I don't charge anybody. My job paid the fees, bond, and insurance so I don't really worry about charging for the service.

Yeah, there's no money you really make for being a notary in Florida either but some jobs require it. In Lousiana it's actually pretty tough to become a notary so most notaries are attorneys because they automatically become one. Otherwise you have to study for a test that isn't exactly easy. In Florida it's so easy my dog could become a notary.

    I have family in Seattle.

Just ask your landlord...he/she trusts you enough to lease to you...hit the police station and ask them, as well...they can pull your record and make sure you're not some violent criminal trying to take over the state by being a notary...

Notaries can make quite a bit of money...working for title companies, etc. The customer pays for the "closing fees" and the company pays the notary for the stamp. Most get paid extra to travel to closing sites. It's very flexible work and you can make decent money.

If you want to combine being a delivery service with notarizing documents you can get probably $40 as a trip charge. Mostly it is being a hotshot service with extras. Otherwise being a notary is just a convenience.
