    Default Supersticious?

I don't know if you call it superstition or ritualistic, but when i work, my OCD really comes into play. For instance, I have to get ready in a certain order, if I don't I always forget something important (like deoderant). Also when I walk out onto the floor, I always have to have $2 in my purse. Even when I dump money into my locker later, I always keep $2 in there.

If the girl before me leaves a dollar on stage, I never pick it up unless I'm handing it to her. Otherwise, I consider it bad luck to pick it up, unless she gives it to me.

Does anyone else have little rituals or superstitions? Or am I just a big fat weirdo...

Ha! Ava, you are psychic. I had been thinking about starting a thread called "Stripperstitions"! My boyfriend always wants to wish me luck before I work, but doesn't want to jinx me. In the other dance world, you wish each other "Merde" before a show, and everyone knows about "Break a leg" in theater. Is there a stripper term for "Good luck"? If not, should we invent one? How about "Break a nail"? Or maybe "Bust a nut"? (I kid, I kid.)

I did read about one exisitng superstition, Ava - making sure you don't leave your shoes on the counter in the dressing room. I read that once and am now totally compulsive about not doing this . . .

Thankfully my OCD doesnt come into play at work. The only superstition I've run into while dancing is that putting your shoes on the dressing room table is BAD LUCK. It seems common place in all of the clubs I've worked.

Shoes on the counter? Which shoes, street shoes? Whether this is true or not, I will have to incorporate it into my getting ready routine, otherwise it will bug me.

I always took it to mean your stripper shoes.

Yup same here, i always have to listen to a certain song on the way to work. Then when i park my car i have to pull on each door handle and pull up on the trunk to make sure it is closed, then i have to lock it 4X. I also now follow the no shoes on counter thing, after reading it on here it has started to bother me. Happy to hear i`m not the only one.

I have a pre-work ritual that I must follow or I jinxed. Wake up 10:30 or 11:00 go to gym then go to tanning salon. Come home and get ready in certain order exfoliate, wash hair, exfoliate again with moisturizing soap, shave, ect. Wow it sounds crazier the more I type. The routines also help w/remembering everything like my dancer bag essentials. I have ADD so it helps me to do things the same way so I don't get distracted and forget stuff. My absolute biggest fear is being unprepared.

I have the time routine each time I get ready for work, all in the same order but I don't know if it's superstitous or just out of habit. I do frequently have a thing about double checking to make sure I unplugged the curling iron/ clothes iron, etc. even though I know I unplugged it, I always run back in the house to double check. I also do that to make sure I locked my front door, even though I'm 99.9999% sure I did. I just can't go to work w/o double checking and knowing 100% sure because I'm afraid I'll worry about it all night and that it'll ruin my hustle.

I've never seen anyone put street shoes up on the counters to get yelled at, so I guess just stripper shoes. If I ever see someone get yelled at for street shoes, I'll let you know.

If possible, could you try and re-create the yelling? I want to really learn my lesson. (seriously).

I will not say "It's going to be a great night!", no matter how slammed it is getting, I've had this backfire on me several times, lol--it's a running joke between the asst mgr and I now. I'll even catch myself starting to say it, or something similar, and we'll laugh about it.

Sometimes I'll even say "Tonight's going to suck!" as a preemptive joke...

As far as checking the locked doors, etc.--nothing wrong with that, and a good way to make sure you don't get broken into.

No, you're not weird. I don't like handling other people's money without their permission either. I had my own routine before work every night. I would get completely ready at home, pack a few things to touch-up with, grab a snack and that way I would be ready to go when I got to work other than changing. I always tryed to start out with something in my garter at the beginning of the night, whether it was 2 dollars or ten dollars. One night I had to get ready at work because I was out during the day. It drove me completely insane because I felt completely disorganized and crowded in our small little dressing room.

We're showpeople, really, and showpeople of all sorts are superstitious--from actors to baseball players. I love it. It makes me feel like I'm a part of a sisterhood.

We definitely had the shoes on the coutner one at my old club.

it seems the night i leave my shoes on the counter my money for the night increases. i've always done well after letting my shoes heat up under the blazing dressing room bulbs. i don't have any rituals. perhaps making sure my red lipstick stays perfect, or that could just be grooming.

I am the same.I have to do everything the same way in getting ready everytime I work or my day is fucked and feel I dont look right.
But my thing is for the superstitions is I have a bad day if I dont prewash new pair of thongs before I wear them.I will see major less dollars in them if I dont

If you drink a drink or shot without cheers-ing or toasting you will have bad luck remainder of night.Thats the superstition in my club everyone says. All of us regularly cheers or says funny thing before hitting glasses.

My thing is my money...I MUST keep it organized throughout my shift.. it all has to be faced the same and in denominational order. I think I got this from Oprah years ago, if you want to make money, you have to respect the money you have. I see girls with all their $$ crammed in their purse and it makes me cringe. Yeah, I guess it's a quirky superstition...

Yup, after reading it on here, I started doing the same thing. None of my shoes on the counter anylonger

Oh, I have a really bad habit that people say is supersticious. I leave my purse on the floor. I've always heard to hold on to your purse and not set it on the floor and you'd lose your money/purse. It's a bad habit and when I realize I'm doing it, I pick it up.

Ha, then I'd drive you crazy! I would literally get off stage and bunch ALL the money together and jam it into my purse. I bought a tiny Dooney wristlet purse to help (ala force me) to become more organized with my money.

I get SO mad at my husband everytime he sends me off to work saying, "make a thousand dollars tonight!". I constantly tell him that it jinxs me and I will come home with nada. I try to set myself with a reasonably low goal of $300 so that I am almost always happy when I make much more than that for the night.

Some of you might remember the old one about not putting your purse on the floor, which means the night will be bad money.A dancer told me that in Toronto a long time ago,and ever since then I've been avoiding that.

I thought of another one. Any time a customer gives me a token of his affection other than a generous tip- such as a paper flower, or a ring made from a dollar, I must keep it on or near my person. Last night a customer gave me his Kabbala bracelet, and even though I don't claim any one religion, I will be wearing the bracelet until I have a bad night.

The only exception is flowers. When customers buy me flowers, I give them away to the other girls at the end of the night.

My boyfriend is convinced I do better when he says, "HA, I bet you can't even make $400 tonight! There's no way!!"

Sure enough, it'll be a $500 night. Ha.

LOL, Danielle, you sound exactly like me! Being unprepared is the worst In all reality we probably spend more hours prepping for work than we actually spend at work. It's worth it though. I know if I don't work out before I go or do something physical, I feel like the human blob.
I've never heard of the shoes on the table one or the purse on the floor.
I'm afraid to count my money until after I leave. I feel like if I count it I'll either get lazy because I've made my goal or discouraged because I haven't. Not knowing is what keeps me motivated.
