    Morning Sickness...

I'm getting it REALLY bad. I had been getting it in waves untill this morning. I felt to sick to even move for 3 hours. It finally subsided but now I feel so nauseous and sweaty. Almost like I have the flu. I just found out I was pregnant on Sat. and it's my first pregnancy so im pretty clueless about everything except what I have read online and in the 'What to Expect' book.. Does anyone know of anything over the counter that will help?

Does it keep getting worse? I am around 4-5 weeks right now. What should I expect next?
I am so nervous and scared. But very excited as well. I appreciate any advice from anyone as this is all so new to me.

    Thank you ladies!

First of all, CONGRATS!!! I know it's scary, but you will be forever blessed once the baby arrives!

I didn't get morning sickness too bad. However, I did find that it lasted until about 11-14 weeks. The only advice I have is to try to take it easy. Rest as much as possible. If you feel sick, turn the lights down, lay down, and place a wet, cold washcloth on your eyes. It always helps to make me feel better. Also try nibbling on a few saltine crackers and some water.

If you get heartburn later in the pregnancy, try eating a Granny Smith apple. My doctor recommended it to me, and it was a life saver!

    Again congrats!

stay outta the sun as much as possible.
going from extreme heat, like very hot to very cold will add to the nausea.

eating fresh raw fruits and veggies are good. stuff that doesnt have to potent of a smell or taste

keep a fan in ur bathroom/by the toilet.

Ginger is great for nausea. My mom always stayed ahead of her morning sickness by nibbling ginger snaps and sipping cold ginger ale all day. You can also drink ginger tea or have anything with lots of ginger in it.

Congrats, Mags. I saw your bulletin the other day.

I second what Yekhefah said. Ginger is amazing. Anything Ginger will do the trick. You can also try Peppermint. Get a big ole bag of Peppermint lifesavers. Wintergreen works good too.

I've also heard some good things about Preggy Pops, and Preggy Drops. You can pick them up at many Maternity stores, including Motherhood. I've never tried them, so I can't tell you from experience how well they work. I just go on what others have said.

I really wish I could tell you that it gets better... But I can't. LOL

Just make sure that you always have something in your stomach, or it'll make it 100 times worse if there's nothing to throw up. I can't tell you how many times I was hunched over the toilet dry heaving. Any little thing will do--keep saltine crackers beside your bed and eat a few before you get up.

This pregnancy's been good for me so far.. I've only gotten sick when I've had coughing fits (damn allergies). It wakes him up and he gets pissed so he makes me throw up.. LOL

Congrats!!! When I was pregnant I was VERY nauseous until about 5 months. I was not working though, so I can only imagine what you're going through. Do not try to force yourself to eat. It only made feel worse or it all came up anyway. I was so nauseous that I lost 25 lbs my first 6 months. I weighed 150 at the time. I would eat very small meals every few hours or so. I would avoid spicy/greasy foods. Just make sure they are healthy. Tums are usually safe during pregnancy. I always felt a little nauseous throughout both (2) my pregnancies no matter what I did and lost weight through both pregnancys too. As long as the baby is doing okay, try not to let it worry you. My kids were born at 7& 8 lbs and are completely healthy. I weigh 132 now(5'9'). I am still unable to gain a great amount of weight since the pregnancies. Yay!!!! I just had to add that so this didn't look too grim. You are very early, so it may subside soon. But just to warn you, it may not. I don't why they call it 'morning sickness' when in some cases it should be called 'all day sickness!'

Good luck, just try to ride it out.

Congrats! My best friend just had her baby and her morning sickness was the worst around four weeks. Afer that, it either got better or she learned to adjust to it. The worst part for her was feeling "as big as a house" (her words) and having to go to the bathroom all the time during the last three months. I have no kids, I don't think I am tough enough to do the whole nine months !!

Like Rhi said, eat some saltine crackers before getting out of bed. Congrads on the baby!

Plain baked potato and plain popcorn.. Must be PLAIN, that means nothing added.

These things help immensely with a sick tummy. Sprite and all kinds of CLEAR liquids will go easier on the stomach as well.

    Happy new baby!!!!

Congrats on the lil one to be!!

When I had morning sickness(I was preggers with twins ) I used to sip flat gingerale slowly and eat unsalted crackers. I also found out morning sickness isnt just the morning.. mine came at me like later afternoon, go figure. I was working at a coffee shop at the time and it was a pain, I ended up doing the over night shift. Just stay as relaxed and take it easy.. it will pass in time *hugs*

oh dear...morning sickness is tough. First kid I had it until 6 months and the second was almost 5 months. Of course "morning" is a bunch of baloney....I had it all day long. One minute fine next minute bam. My doc had me keep a "journal of sickness" as she put it. It made me be aware of what I was doing, eating, smelling etc. It helped to identify some things I could control (like stay away from red onions, manny the mail clerk, and stay off escalators, no riding the train, etc).

Flat gingerale works wonders. Pour a 2 liter bottle into a pan and simmer til hot then let it cool....put in fridge and you have flat gingerale when ever you need it. Sucking on crystalized ginger works too.

Wintergreen mints or altoids if you can stand them. It kills the taste in your mouth plus comes in handy if you are somewhere and toss your cookies...

Then bless the 19 year old kid that joined our team at work. He brought me an orange soda every day. I absolutely hate orange soda but it was one of those things that if I drank it all day I would not get sick.

If you get hit hard when you first wake up...before you sit up sip some gingerale and eat some crackers or ginger snaps. Leave them on your nightstand before you go to bed. The idea is don't sit up until there is something in your tummy to absorb all those acids that run rapid when you are preggo.

Focus on the miracle growing in you.

Congratulations!!!!! Just remember that morning sickness is a sign the pregnancy is going well. With my daughter I only had morning sickness for the first 8 weeks then one day I woke up one day feeling great. All the advice you've gotten so far is great and I just wanted to add one thing. I found that eating a lot of bread really helped me. I would still get sick once in awhile, however it really kept the acid levels inmy stomache down. If you have any questions feel free to PM me
