    Default Whew! What a week.

My middle brother, who just turned 14, has been visiting me for the past week. It was his first time on an airplane, his first time out of town without his parents, and his first time in California. In the past week, we have:

    • Watched two seasons of "Arrested Development" on DVD.
    • Been to San Francisco and back.
    • Been all over Chinatown in L.A. and Chinatown in San Fran.
    • Hiked to the top and bottom of Runyon Canyon.
    • Been to Zuma Beach, Pismo Beach, and Santa Barbara.
    • Spent a day at Universal Studios.
    • Eaten pizza, salads, sushi, Mexican, Chinese, and Thai.
    • Watched the Dodgers kick some ass.
    • Gotten drunk together. (oops)
    • Covered every star and square on Hollywood Blvd.
    • Been shopping in Los Feliz.
    • Ridden choppers up and down Venice Beach.
    • Ridden choppers around Santa Barbara.
    • Said everything about our mother and other brothers that we can't say at home.

And that's just an overview. I'm completely exhausted. Today he's supposed to leave; we were going to wake up early this morning and hike up near the Hollywood sign. So I got up at six, after insufficient sleep, and got dressed... and the little fucker won't wake up. I've been shaking him and hollering his name for hours and he just will not wake up. So it looks like we may miss that hike. And I could've been sleeping too for the past three and a half hours. Argh.

It's been a great visit, but I'll be happy to put him on that plane, clean my house again (it looks like a teenage boy has been in it all week), and chill the fuck out for awhile. Whew!

Of course I can only chill out for a little bit because I'm completely out of money again after all that...

Shouldn't you consider counseling your brother to refrain from "contributing to the delinquency of an adult" in the future?

Being an only child, it's difficult to weigh the advantages/disadvantages of having brothers and/or sisters.

Okay, Yek, I'm coming to visit you when I'm on vacation. Sounds like a great time! But we'd have to trash talk other SWer's (hehe).

lucky! My lil bro refuses to drink.. He is the most stright edged child I have ever met.. I didn't drink at that age either, but I didn't have an older sibling.. oh well, at least I have managed to corrupt at least one.. he he
I adore my siblings, glad you are having fun... I buy my siblings love.. with money, heh
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

We had one last adventure today... we farted around doing last-minute things this morning and then got stuck in traffic on the way to the airport. When we got to check in, they told us he'd missed his flight and he'd have to fly out tomorrow. His birthday party is tomorrow (his birthday was last week) and he'd have missed it! And the next day he leaves for summer camp. So I begged and pleaded and finally they checked him in with the warning, "I can't promise you'll make it; they're not going to hold the plane for him." We BOLTED. Took off sprinting across LAX like cheetahs... got to the metal detector / X-ray thing...

HUGE LINE. It would've taken at least 45 minutes to get through it, and he had maybe 5. I ran up to a security guard wild-eyed and wailed, "His birthday party is tomorrow and he's going to miss his flight! Is there ANYTHING we can do?!" And the guy let us move ahead to the front! So we hustled through it and took off sprinting again, and got to the gate right as they were announcing the end of last call for boarding. As soon as he was through the walkway, they retracted it and backed the plane out. We made it by seconds. Whew. I would've felt so horrible if he missed his birthday party!!

But he's gone now and I already miss him loads. I had fun with the oldest last year when he was 14 and visiting, and had just as much fun this year. Next year the baby will be 12 and it'll be his turn to come out for a visit. I was hoping to move this year, but I guess I better stay in L.A. so the youngest isn't left out.
