Re: What should we do?
I can think of one thing . . .
If I were in Tennessee with a weekend to burn, I'd want to stay at the Peabody in Memphis and enjoy some delicious pulled pork. Come to think of it, I celebrated all of my birthdays from 19-22 in Memphis. Good times.
I mean, does having kids make you run out of fun ideas? Or are you looking for something out of the ordinary? Because there's spa getaways, new restaurants to check out, pretty lakes to visit, and plenty of lovely cities to roadtrip to around there (Louisville, maybe, if you're in Nashville/Knoxville). I'm sure you'll have a lovely birthday!

Re: What should we do?
Yea, Memphis! Don't stay at the Peabody, it's overpriced. Get a cool hotel room somewhere else, like the French Quarter Inn by Overton Square, and party hardy on Beale!
I'm gonna be in Memphis for my birthday this year! I'm getting my family and friends together for food, probably at Corky's, and then my friends are taking me out on Beale. Hells yeah!

Re: What should we do?
I don't think the Peabody is overpriced for what it is at all. Though the French Quarter Suites are certainly a nice alternative. Of course we don't have kids so our idea of what's acceptable to blow on a hotel probably come from a different reality.
sigh. I had a really lame pulled pork sandwich yesterday that made me miss the good stuff you can get there all the more. Like a delicious barbecued cornish game hen at the Cozy Corner. Or a sandwich at Neely's or the Interstate.

Re: What should we do?
Aughhh, Interstate BBQ. Yums. My family won't go there because of the neighborhood, though.
I've never stayed at the Peabody, but I've seen in the rooms and they just look like any nice hotel to me; they certainly don't look like they're worth the $300 a night I've heard they cost. I've only stayed in Memphis hotels on a couple crazy occasions, though; I grew up there, so I always stay with family when I visit.
I'm going home for a visit in about a month. I'm dreaming of a beef brisket BBQ sandwich smothered in coleslaw and extra sauce. Alternatively, we could just get together at my parents' house and my stepfather makes a beef brisket and BBQ chicken that's just as good... and my mom makes fried hotwater cornbread and turnip greens with no pork, just how I like it. Maybe I'll request that for my birthday dinner instead!
Mmmmmm, Memphis soul food...

Re: What should we do?
Ellen's Soul Food on S Parkway! Oh my god. Amazing fried chicken, pork chops, johnnycakes, red velvet cake, and huuuuuge glasses of Kool-Aid. Oh god.
Alright, sorry to continue to hijack with my longing for delicious southern food. All I can say is every time I roll into town there I have a list of at least six restaurants I want to hit immediately. Only then am I ready for the rest of the activities.

*rent a hot red convertible and check out Graceland.
*Go to restaurants that you've always wanted to go to yet never have
*Go to a sex shop and be silly and get all sorts of toys
What do you miss the most about kid-free living as a couple? Let THAT guide you on what you want to do.

Re: What should we do?
What part of Tennessee do you live? It makes a big difference considering it's an 8 hour drive from East to West. I lived in Knoxville for many, many years. One of my favorite "mini-vacations" was a drive to Asheville, NC. Go check out the Biltmore Estates and then stay at the Grovespark Inn. They have the best spa in the country!
