    Default Post-Liposuction

I had 850 cc's (almost a liter) of fat taken out from my abs, hips, thighs, calves , knees and ankles through liposuction about 2 months ago.

I still have swelling in some areas and wish they had taken more out..the doc said he took out as much as he could but i still have fat on my thighs, legs, and abs that bothers me. I'm not happy with how i look right now.

Has anyone had liposuction? Is this swelling? I workout a lot so im wondering if its swelling which is common with this procedure.

My co-worker got lipo in October of last year. About 6 months later she actually looked thinner. You do know it takes several months to see results from lipo right? Swelling is common but if you are oozing or leaking in any amount I would call your doc asap. Thats a sign something is not right.

Otherwise, its ok to call your doc and ask questions - even the silly ones. Right now you'll have to play the waiting game. You can test your lipo results by breaking out your "skinny clothes" and try them on every so often. After awhile youll see better and bettre results. Its not like a BA and bam results...its takes time to let the swelling go down and let your nerves regroup to see results.

I've had lipo, and yes, it's probably swelling. I am over 1 year post-op and I swear there is still some fat there. Maybe so, but it is definitely skinnier-looking than before. Before, I looked 3 mos. pregnant and no matter how much I sucked in, my belly refused to go flat. Now, it only refuses to go flat if I am bloated for some reason (just ate; too much alcohol; too much soda; PMS). Otherwise, I can not suck it in and it still won't look like I'm going to be having a baby.

In a nutshell, it can take 6 mos. to a year to see your full results. I had 900cc's removed and it took me about 4 or 5 mos. before I finally stopped swelling. You are VERY early in your recovery, where heat and salt make you blow up like a balloon. Be patient, darling. It WILL get better, and it is so worth it!

And oh yeah, working out at this point causes swelling also!

Thanks so much ladies! That is helpful. I was looking at the liposuction boards where they had dramatic results. But, they also had 3000 cc's removed and were kind of out of shape or drastically disproportionate to start out with.

My stomach is flatter..but my thighs were smaller when i had a two week recovery hiatus from exercising. Once i started working out again they got bigger. So , im just focusing on dieting and burning calories for now and letting the swelling resolve itself.

Thanks again ladies!! I think i might be a 6 month case..

You are definately still in recovery period but I have to say a liter from all those areas is not very much fat. You should see some contour changes but I don't think your expectations should be to be "skinnier". Lipo is a big pain in the ass. Most people (including myself) are disappointed with the results, always thinking the doctor should have taken more fat. I first had my abdomen done, then went back for a touch-up, decided to get my inner thighs done, now I need a touch-up.

Anway, I took bromelain for the swelling. You can get it at a healthfood store. Drink lots and lots of water to reduce swelling and water retention. As mentioned things such as sodium, exercise, alcohol and heat will increase swelling.

I am thinking of getting lipo on my abdomen/lovehandles and was wondering how long it would be before I could go back to work. Was the recovery painful? How long did you have to wear the compression garment for? Did you have any scarring? How long did you bruising last?

It probably varies person to person. I had severe purple bruises for a week. They turned yellowish/orange on the second week. Lipo is VERY traumatizing to the body and it shows like you've been beaten and battered. I didn't think the pain was too bad though, it's nothing a Vicodin won't cure. They generally go through your belly button for your abs so there is no visible scar there. Love handles would be two tiny dots the size of a bug bite or pimple right above the butt checks.

They suggest no exercise for 4-6 weeks and dancing is definately exercise so I would consider the timeoff from work into your budget.

I wore the garment 24/7 for two weeks and then only at night for another two weeks.

Thanks! I guess I will plan to take off at least a month if I decide to go ahead with it. Definitely something I may do in the near future.

Maybe the reason that much fat wasn't removed is because she didn't have that much fat to begin with. Lipo is meant for contouring not weight loss.

3000 cc's? I'm surprised that person didn't go into shock and die!

I have had 3 major lipo sugeries and 3 mini's. I was in Beveley Hills in May getting it done by my hot doctor. I had 1700 cc's taken from my lower/upper abs, arms, waist, lovehandles, mid to upper bra bulge. Alomsot 2 liters of coke. I love lipo. I have never had any other sugeries. My belly button had to be reconstructed for the second time as well.
Most of my swelling went down. I look great and watch what I eat. Finally I look fit and I'm 5'1 1/2 105 pounds. When I first moved to NYC I 90lbs. That was too thin for me. I gained weight and had to get it taken out. I like my body now. It has almost been 3 months since my last lipo deal and yes it was worth it. I live in NYC and my dr is in LA. I trust him alot and would never go to anyone but him.
I have never had any kids. I work out. I am just very into my body and being cut well. I like a flat tummy and thin arms.

You are still pretty early in your recovery, so swelling is to be expected. It sounds like you had a lot done, and the more you have taken out, the longer the healing time. I had lipo just over a year ago, and LOVE my results. I had just about 4 lbs. taken out, and the surgery was a breeze. My bruising was minimal, though I really couldn't see it the first week because of the compression garment (which, per instructions, I did not take off). It was mostly gone by the second week. I was thinner-looking when I left the surgical center than when I went in, even with swelling.

One of the reasons people get good results is realistic expectations. My doctor told me exactly what to expect, and lipo is for contouring, NOT weight loss. All of my fat was localized deposits that had not gone away with serious diet and excersize, and probably never would due to genetics and a medical condition. I was at almost my ideal weight before I got it done, and that 4 pounds meant about 5 dress sizes for me by the time the swelling was no longer noticeable (about 4 weeks). I look better with each passing day--muscle lines now show readily in my thighs, inner and outer!! There was NO fat left in these areas, the doc took it all out. Because he could--I was thin enough that all he was taking were localized pockets for contouring. It did take my skin about 6 months to fully catch up in terms of tautness, but no one but me noticed.

Most of the people I know who've had lipo and were unhappy with it were often a good bit from their ideal weight when they had it done, and/or didn't rigourously work to continue staying in shape and building muscle post-surgery. I think most doctors aren't upfront about what lipo is and isn't good for. My doc regularly turns people away that are looking to use the surgery for weight-loss, because that is simply a bad idea and nothing he wants to be part of. He's a top surgeon, and I LOVE him. Caring, I got all the cosults and follow-ups I wanted for free... Many, many docs I've heard of (and two I visited while looking around) were not as up-front.

Let us know how the rest of your recovery goes, and I am sure you'll be stunning!
