Default Has anybody tried the nailene or kiss french acrylic kit?

I saw this in the store and it looked so much easier than the stuff at Sally's that I used to keep on hand for emergency maintenance or when I didn't have time to get to the salon. I was wondering if they last, if they go on well, I'm pretty experienced with touch ups. The kit has French white tips, but the part that goes on your real nail is clear and you are supposed to use a wet layer of pink acrylic to hold the tip on instead of glue, then put the clear acrylic over that. This comes with the brush and little pot, which would be good since I can't find any of my stuff except my liquid. (My husband "helped" me by cleaning house when I was out of town a couple of weeks ago and I'm still looking for a bunch of stuff.)
Anyway, I was looking for something that I could use for the 4th, I've been letting my real nails air out since Monday, but really need to get them done before that evening because we are having a party and my salon called to cancel my appointment.
    Sorry if this is long,
    Jasmine

i've tried it. if you've never done your own acrylics before, they probably won't be perfect on the first try. give yourself extra time to do them the first few times, and plan on painting them. you might need help with your "wrong" hand depending upon your dexterity. but if you've done it before, it's a great kit. just make sure you sit next to an open window or something, and mix the powder with the liquid well, or it'll never set correctly. also, if the little plastic tip melts from spreading the acrylic too much or rushing, you have to start over. you'll need a glass dish you don't mind dedicating entirely to this purpose from now on, and some better brushes- the ones in the kit are crap, and the bristles fall out. also, make sure you have both pure acetone polish remover and non-acetone polish remover on hand. it also helps to have a real metal nail file, not the cheap ass ones they give you, and a good supply of wooden manicure sticks.

it's probably much easier to have the salon put on the initial application with the tips, and then use the kits for fill ins. o, and they come with the typical "average size assortment" of nail tips, so if you've used fake nails before, and found you ran out of small nails or big nails, you might need two kits.

To be honest, I use nailene nails that glue on... I think they are great... they last about a week for me and only cost $6 at walmart. To me, they look just as good as going to a salon. I keep the extra nails and glue in a plastic bag in my purse just in case one falls off.

I tried the kiss brand, in my opinion you get a better result not using the giude tape, but it takes patience and practice. Looks great though!

Maybe it was the way I was using it...but the arcrylic always dried really grainy. I've used the "professional" arcrylic kits and have not had the problem. Like I said, it could have just been that I was using it wrong.

But, VoW had some great pointers. Especially about the brushes...they do lose bristles really easily...the are also smaller than what I prefer...

I'm with VG. The little beginner kits have very grainy acrylic. If you want to do it yourself go and buy the powders that the professionals use. Tammy Taylor has great products.

yeah, the acrylic is grainy. you have to mix it very very well to get it to a good consistency, or it will be painfully obvious.
