    Default Hourglass Figure

I'm very into the look of the 40s, especially hourglass figures the women had. I think they are very sexy and I was curious how one would achieve that? Is their certain workouts you can do? I want to be in shape, and since I've gained weight Im moving towards skinny to hourglass.

    Any suggestions?

Corset training- are y'all talking about hardcore straight-lacing, or just wearing a moderate corset all day?

Don't the results of the corset go away within short period of time?

I've got a major vintage hourglass too, and it's a pain in the ass. I can NEVER find clothes that fit.

Glad to hear Im not the only one! Finding jeans is the worst.

I don't know much regarding the corset training but Im assuming that in conjunction with a weight lifting program geared for hypertrophy in certain areas would give the appearance...hard to suggest which lifts without some picture of your current build, but I would possibly suggest lat pulldowns which would widen your midback and create a V shape, mybe some shoulder work witht he deltoids again to make the appearance of a smaller waist, squats for sure...but this would take awhile and lots of dedication to build but could be beneficial while your doing the corset training. Just be careful of creating muscle imbalances which is easy to do in women...that's why a pic of your posture would help.

well, the way they did it in the forties was to wear pantygirdles constantly. i do not reccommend this- good corsets are much sexier.

    Corset training:

Get an industrial corset 2" smaller than your waist and wear it at least 2 hours a day. Then get another 4" smaller. Continue.

You also have to lace the corset properly, basically making it so that it laces down to the middle (the small of your back), rather than the end (the top of your bum) of the grommets. It makes it so you can cinch it tightly where you want and give you the ultimate hourglass, while still allowing your lungs a little breathing room. Just lace as you would normally, halfway down your back, and then get another lace and start at the bottom, working up until you meet the other laces. This is how tightlacers have been doing it for generations, and its incredibly effective.

I'm thinking of trying this too...I am built anti-hourglass. I am slim with natural D cup boobs, but I have boyish hips and waist. (34 inch hips with 27 inch waist...). Honestly, I don't want to lose much more weight, and I work out all the damn time (enough so that every single customer asks what I do to work out, because my legs are muscular as get out these days...no school and nothing but time to spend running). But my waist won't get any trimmer. Can a corset help even if you have narrow hips? My bones are little I think...I don't think the hips will get any bigger, so I guess a corset to make the waist smaller? How impractical are they, as far as daily activities are concerned? How uncomfortable? Ha, I have very delicate digestion, so I am curious as to the possible ill effects of pushing on the guts?

There we go. I've been doing it wrong all this time

As for your internal organs, if you do your tightlacing gradually, you should be okay. However, if you have something like ibs, tightlacing may not be for you. I've experienced some unpleasant effects on my bowel from doing it for too long, and I would imagine a medical condition would make it 100 times worse. Some people reccomend enemas to contravene this issue. Not my cup of tea, but it may be for some.

And waist training works because it compresses your floating ribs. It doesn't really matter if your hip size is small, because it will make them look larger in proportion to your waist. If you have back or tummy fat, it may squish some of that down to your hips though (in my experience).

It's pretty easy to move around in them. You just need to bend at the knees a lot more than usual. Which is great as it forces you to do squats out of neccesity!

You have to have the corsets custom made to your measurements, Colleen. Which does mean spending $300USD+ for a decent industrial corset at least every six months to a year. If you get a random one at a mall, it will not fit properly and cause a weird shape in your body.

they have some good information, and if you write to them with questions, they'll reply. what they recommend is actually wearing your corset for atleast 20 hours a day (yes, even sleeping in it). i wrote to ask, and they said if you wear it less often, the waist training has far less of an effect and takes much longer. also, from what they replied to me when i wrote, if you waist train yourself to the size you want, and then stop wearing corsets, your figure will revert back to its natural shape, with the exception of if you acheived compression of the ribs- these will remain in their compressed position. however, that takes at least a year of 23 hour a day corset wearing to achieve safely, they said.
