Default Dulce et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori

Something Madmaxine said in another thread sparked a random thought.

Whatever you do for the 4th, if you see a veteran, please take the time to thank him or her. And, while you are attending that barbecue, just keep in your thoughts all of those who died in the service of this Nation from the Revolution to today. Just remember them.

Ive never been one for overt public displays, and any veteran I have known or encountered has always been uncomfortable with overt attention paid to them. However, I have found that a simple handshake and a quiet, dignified "Thank you" speaks volumes to their hearts.

"And thats all I have to say about that".

    Awww,

I've been wanting to start a thread like this. Often it's really hard to know what to say around military service personnel, given the state of current world events. I think a "thank you" & buying a round of drinks is a good way to go

Know that the average good soldier/sailor/Marine has a deep desire within him or her self to protect and serve others, REGARDLESS of differences in worldview.

One of the guys I'm seeing is in the army. It makes me feel horribly sad that he is going overseas in the spring of next year but that's life. My grandpas were both in WW2 and though both are now unfortunately dead, they had very interesting stories. Both were very traumatized as well and became alcoholics after the war. So I would agree that they did a lot for us and to treat them with respect!!
