Seriously. A magazine. He stops me and says: "hey." I smile, because I'm friendly, and say "hey. I'm on stage next, but I'd be happy to join you when I'm done" (yes, I actually do talk like that. I know.) He replies, "Oh, I was just saying Hi. I work in a strip club, so you're safe." I laughed (although I already have the foreboding that this guy is a tool) and say "Well, I would say I was UNsafe with the rest of these guys" and he says (Ta-Da) "Well, I've been a DJ for a while, so I mean you are safe from having to work." I look at him and say neutrally: "Well, I COME here to work." "Oh, I've been in the business too long... I haven't been here in a while though, so I thought I'd stop in." I imagined briefly that he was there to meet a staff member thus making him slightly (although only slightly) less toolish... No. He was there to sit, flipping through a magazine, paying $10 a drink (if he tips at all - after all, he's been in the business too long). There are, by the way, 18 bars in a stone's throw from my club. My thing being - dude, if you've been in the business so long, you should already know that I'm only interested in being friendly for cash. We have a friendly and pleasant DJ here I can hang out with, if I am so inclined. We don't need more."
Seriously that guy - the bouncer or DJ who "knows the game" bothers me only slightly less than the guy who sits around giving the girls "free" back massages (really the girls who do that bug me as well. We have one of those guys as well. There was a new waitress who got stuck with him pawing her all night because she is not used to dealing with these guys and didn't know how to say no, politley).
