    Default American Psycho

Okay so i've read the book now., seen the movie a few dozen times

I am LOST. I can't figure out what's really fucking going on.

From the movie it seems he's made it all up in his head., that he's never killed anyone.

In the book it seems he has but also has schizo characteristics., benches following him. a tracking device in his vcr.. atms talking to him

Yet it never says he didnt kill people.

Anyone out there read this book ? Insight please!

Bret Easton Ellis is good at sort of modern-day morality fables... I think it can be taken either way. I don't think you're supposed to be very relieved in the movie when it turns out that everything was going on in his head as opposed to real life, and I don't think the book bothers distinguishing for that reason.

uh yah i read the same book. however im confused because a lot of what he does and what goes on obviously are all in his head.

again like atms talking to him., benches following him... a tracking device in his vcr

In the movie..its all in his head..which makes sense as far as how outragous some of the shit was..like the shoot out with the cops

yet no one looks for him ..no one hears about it on the news.

same as in the book., so wtf..its very confusing and makes me wonder what parts are real and what parts are purely his mind working

also towards the end it goes from narrative to the writer stating

" then patrick got out of the car " and it goes on for about two paragraphs before switching back to first person.

Its just odd. like maybe he's not really patrick ..or that patrick is one of his personalities.

Its one of those books that is made for the reader i think to take away from it their own version., because it's so fucking warped and twisted.

thats why im interested to hear others views.
