Default What else do you do? Grrr

I am SICK and tired of being asked what else I do. As if I would have the strength to work until 3 am and then get up for a nine to fiver only to be at the club at 7 that night... Hmm, what else could I do? Well, aside from going into that tirade when I answer the custies question or telling them I like to sleep, what should I say?
I was thinking of saying that I tutor (something I did in high school).. Or that I volunteer at a thrift shop (also on my resume..)
It just really puts me in a mood when I get the idea that they don't think dancing should be tiring at all and that I should also have a "real" job.
Any suggestion? What do other ladies say? I'm a wretched liar, but I can practice on that one.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

If they're being assholes and they aren't spending money, I ignore them and walk off. If they ARE nice and just trying to make small talk, and or have money, I say "well, I had this other job, but I kept getting in trouble for showing up in skimpy outfits and getting naked everytime they turned the radio on...soo,...."

That generally gets a laugh, and they stop asking

sounds good.. I tend to tell them how I just LOVE dancing because it's fun and that I am happy. But I hate it when they make me feel lazy.. The non-spenders are defintely left behind, but the ones spending seem to be convinced that we have super human strength and are able to work night and day. I mean they come in exhausted after a day at the office, at least we are dancing around a pole.. heh

Thats when you get all sarcastic on them, tell them you perform heart transplants on M, W and F, you find cures for diseases on Tue and Thur and then on the weekends you volunteer at a homeless shelter. That should shut them up...lol.

I am an incurable smart ass. I used to make stuff up like:

"I'm currently attending seminary school because I like to study semen."
"I work as a mortician at a family funeral home."
"I'm a cryogeneticist working on building a real Jurasic Park."
    "Undercover cop... And you?"
"If I told you, I'd have to kill you."
"Professional pathilogical liar who specializes in terra forming extra-solar system planets."
"Unemployed phone solicitor. Can I have your phone number?"
"I'm currently involved in a government study tracking space alien activity."
"I work for the psychic friends network, and I can see you are ready for a dance."

My favorite is when the customers would say "really?"

    "oh, yes, of course!"

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

That is the most fabulous reply I have heard and will be adding it to my bag of tricks. Thanks!

How about, "I make enough here that I don't need another job." Then you sound ultra successful too.

Tutoring is a bad idea, I used to tell people that I was a language tutor, and then they all wanted me to "teach them".

And you find this to be a DIFFICULT part of your job?

But I guess its different from when you go up to a previous custy and ask "Want another lap dance?" i.e. "How much more money do you have on you?". Thats not annoying either huh?

Maybe if you dropped your attitude and indulged the customer's thoughtless banter with some contrived interest and warmth, he might be persuaded to part with more of his cash for you. Your job is providing a fantasy, so create the fantasy. Stop thinking that a customer is supposed to love you for who you think you are. Oh, but that would be too easy, or did somebody lie to you and tell you stripping was easy?

Dam, that is a good line. I am always honest and tell them I'm in school. I honestly hate doing that because most men (not all) seem to get somewhat detached that I have more education than them. I think some men hate to think that I'm not some drugged out stripper, with 2 babies, living off of welfare, doing this job just to make ends meet.

I just tell them I spend all my time preparing to be a stripper each night. I'm out getting my hair done, my nails, pedicure, massage, facial, shopping, tanning, etc. But think I like the other replies better, the heart surgeon one and all of Paris's, those were hilarious!!!

Instead of all of that [because that is the kind of stuff I do all day], I just tell them, "I live a life of luxury full-time. I just do this to support that!" That one always gets a smile and shows them that I have some personality, too!

I agree that this question is super irritating. Sometimes I just tell the truth, just let them know what I do in my spare time and what my long term goals are, making it all sound a little more exciting. Depending on the guy I'll either talk business with them or traveling. With one group I once said I was a kindergarden teacher and they thought that was so hot. You know the whole mother-of-their-children-sweet-madonna-type by day and the slutty-sexed-up-stripper-whore-type by night . I'm a pretty good liar though. Which is really bad, because it's gotten me into A LOT of trouble. I usually end up with regulars and having to keep stories straight sucks. So, I don't recommend making shit up.

Depending on my mood, I either say "Well..every other job I've had where I got drunk and naked they fired me, so I just stay here"

Or I make something outrageous up.."I manually masturbate farm animals for artificial insemination"(from the movie Clerks)
"I'm a professional Jenga player...I just work here when I'm not touring on the circuit"
    "I'm a rodeo clown..."

Sadly...even the really wild stuff...guys believe. One guy even said the HE was pretty good at Jenga and asked what he'd have to do to go pro...ugh...I lost IQ points talking to him!

I take the "what else do you do" question both positively and negatively.

Sometimes I take it to be a positive thing, because it shows that the customers assume that I have further education or career goals. I take it in a good way, that they figure that I am dancing as a temporary stepping stone for moving on to other jobs(which is true). I wouldn't want customers to think I was only planning for the present and not planning any job goals for 20-30yrs down the line! So yeah, I can take this question as a compliment that customers find me intelligent. It's also an opportunity for me to tell them about my college degree and subjects of intellect, which helps me when dealing with lawyers, doctors, etc.

Then other times, I take it to be a negative thing, only because this question opens up the opportunity to be ridiculed and poked fun of for my "loser"-ish luck with securing a real job. The REAL answer to this question is, I graduated college and am looking for a full-time job in my field(finance/actuarial science). But I've had a TERRIBLE time finding a "real" job, hence the reason I started dancing, and I don't like being reminded of this, as it is my all-time #1 biggest insecurity. Sometimes customers are nice and commend me for my rigorous career goals or they assure me that I will find a good job soon because I seem so motivated and intelligent; but sometimes customers are downright rude and say comments like "So you went to college and now you're here" which makes me feel even worse about my already-bad job insecurities. So yeah, there's times I'm in a cranky mood, or feeling rejected from a day of fruitless job searching, and this question just makes me irritated.
