I woke up this morning and my computer, which had been working fine the previous night, was kaput. Wouldn't turn on, though the monitor and speakers were on and functioning. Sigh. Well, this computer was over 4 years old and was more than ready for an upgrade, just waiting for the right time or a good deal. So I went online, found a decent package with a 17" LCD monitor and a printer, and picked it up at Best Buy today. I came home and set it up, and here I am, half an hour later, surfing to my heart's content. I love technology!
Things I don't have to deal with anymore:
1. Not having a legal copy of XP
2. Having USB 1.1 ports instead of 2.0 (and only having two, in the back, so I had to have a hub)
3. Not having any Firewire ports
4. My increasingly flaky and bulky CRT monitor (which was only $15 and lasted 3 years, so I can't complain)
5. Not having a DVD burner
6. My aged keyboard and mouse
Now I have all the ports I need, PLUS the OS is Windows Media Center, so I can eventually burn TV shows to my hard drive (like Tivo) and organize all my pictures and MP3s to be much more accessible. And I have a printer again, which is great. I'm totally diggin' it. I did strip out the RAM (which was relatively new) and the hard drives so I could pull the information off them eventually, so in the end I won't lose any information.
