    Default Bartenders

How many of you are familiar with bartending/the bartenders at your club?

I know most if not all of the bartenders at my club are former dancers. I have a hunch that most if not all also worked as bartenders prior to working the bar at the club. So I thought maybe some of you dancers might have some info for me.

My question is this- how likely is it that a girl who has never danced nor bartended could get hired working as a bartender (or perhaps shooter girl) at a strip club? I have a beautiful friend who is far too body conscious (among other things) to even think about dancing, but she is gorgeous with an incredibly engaging smile, and I think she would do very well as a bartender.

My only concern is that she would not be hired because of her lack of experience. She is a fast learner and would be able to pick things up quickly, but do you think she'd be given the chance?

She's thinking of reading up on 'mixology' and perhaps saying she has had experience (I highly doubt they'd ask, let alone check, for references), but she's really uncomfortable lying and worries it would come back to bite her in the ass.

    Insight? Advice?

I got hired once at a dance club in Hoboken as a bartender with only waitress experience. It's very possible. Try to find out who the nice manager is and approach him/her.

There are plenty of strip clubs which will hire her due to her looking hot and just train her. As long as she puts across that she is very willing to be trained! Why not have her work as a waitress first (those positions are a dime a dozen in strip clubs and are not that very hard to train) even before she applies to work behind the bar at the same club (she can always approach them "down the road" after establishing herself as a great employee to be trained behind the bar).

Or even have her do a short bartending course... that will give her a little bit of help.

I've worked as a bartender and I just wanted to say that your friend should NOT do the whole bartending academy thing. Trust me, it's unnecessary, and real bartenders actually laugh at people who do those things. The club I tended bar at immediately threw away any resumes that mentioned a bartending school.

Totally agreed. The best way to learn bartending is on the fly...it's much cheaper too. Most bars have mixing manuals or Bartender Bibles for those not so common drinks. At a strip club, the most common drinks served are: Martinis, mixed drinks (Bacardi and coke), and Beer. It would be nearly impossible to mess that up. She can say that she bartended on and off during college at an out-of-state bar (depending on how old she is). She'll learn everything else on the job.

I'm a bartender but have never danced. Actually the place I'm at now is the first strip club that I've ever worked at. I've been there for 2 years. Don't waste the money on a baretending course. Especially since strip clubs generally don't do nearly as many drinks as say, a restaurant or regular night clubs. Mostly, you will be pouring beer and shots, 2 ingredient drinks, i.e. Jack and Coke, so it's very easy to learn. Personality counts for a lot in bartending. I would never make money as a dancer, I'd be booted off the stage (I'm not a small girl) but in clothing to cover the "flaws" and a knack for talking to everyone and making them feel comfortable, I do exceptionally well.
    Good luck to your friend.
I'm all for propriety and decency, after all, profanity is just the linguistic crutch of pathetic motherfuckers.
