Default Advice needed. Is the manager just kidding w/me or not??

Ok. Last week was a very slow week for me. I could barely get 6 dances each shift I worked. The manager has always been very cool with me. He has been waving my drink fee If I dont sell all of my drinks. I tip him a $1 each dance I do, and sometimes just a couple dollars more. I was cashing out last week and I only had 6 dances and out of the blue when I gave him his tip he asked, where is my $20....I just thought he was joking...so I just laughed it off. Well the next shift, I went to cash out and he started saying that he is gonna make me work more shifts. I asked him how he was gonna do that, and he just said he doesnt know or he is just gonna make it hard for me when I am working... I didnt say anything , b/c I thought he was just joking. Then I gave him his tip and then he said "Where is my $20"...I just said I didnt make that much....and then I just got up and left. I am wondering if he is just joking with me or does he really mean it. I really dont know how to take him. I would like to get everyones advice on this.

He might mean it. How long have you worked so far?? Eventually you're going to have to pay the full tip out whether you make the money or not. Many times you will walk out with less than you walked in with, sometimes you'll make just enough to cover tip out. Unfortunately that's the hardships of being a dancer. Many clubs don't care if you make enough to have anything left after tip out-they want their money and that's all they care about.

I have been working there 4 months. I have always tipped what is required...that is a $1 each dance. I have heard that some girls tip as much as $3 a dance to the manager. I wonder if he feels that everyone should tip that much to him. At times, when I am working he seems like he is flirting with me, but I am not sure....so thats why I am not sure if I should take him seriously.

I've only been working 2 months and this is my first club but my opinion on the dancing world in general (I'm not saying it's this way at my club) just saying in general that the more you tip-out and tip-out the right people, the more "privledges" you get. So you might want to try to tip-out as much as you financially can afford. If you have a decent night, tip out more than the required. Unless my night is absolutely horrible, I always tip out more than the minimum. If I have a really good night, then I tip out way more than the minimum. They remember that and I'm sure they all talk just like we do about customers who's the big tippers and who aren't.

Just from the sounds of it, I really don't think he's joking. He may try to make it sound like a joke but I don't think it is especially because he's done this now more than once. Maybe next night you go in before the night starts, give him the $20 he asked for and just say "Sorry but I was out of cash that night or I really needed gas money to get home but wanted to make sure you get it first thing tonight" and then see what he says or how he reacts. I think generally when it comes to this business, I don't think anyone jokes about money. This is just how I see things. It's hard for me to say how other clubs operate because I've only worked in one and it's been 2 months but I think just life in general, you don't joke about money.

why don't you ask him? Next time he asks you where his $20 is, say "Are you serious or joking? I just can't tell." It sounds to me like he's just jerking your chain, but ask him to find out for sure.
