On my way home from the gym today, I realized I was starving and didn't have anything quick at home. So I stopped and got some Chinese takeout. (How nice it must have been for the other patrons to share my post-workout aroma...) I thought I'd be a little healthier and I asked if they had brown rice, and she said yes, so I asked for that. I got it home and opened it and said, "This isn't brown rice..."
It was BARLEY! I've only had barley in soups and stews, but I like it, so what the hell. It was delicious! And barley is extremely good for you, even better than brown rice. I don't know if the restaurant fucked up or what, but I know when I cook, I'm going to substitute barley for rice from now on. What a nice way to get some extra nutrients in, and it has more flavor too!
