    Default Sore Wrists...

Okay I must be spending too much time online...

I have this insane non stop pain in my right wrist(the one I just happend to have broke twice). Its like numbing and to the point where its starting to hurt to move my hand. The pain is shooting straight into my fingers and it starts like almost at my elbow.. I cant really explain it other then the fact it really hurts. Im thinking it might be carpal tunnel... which means I should probably go to the doctor. But omg I hate the doctor

Is this going to kill my pole tricks? LoL cuz I cant afford to NOT do pole tricks because thats all I have on stage. Any ideas on how to help the pain?

My wrists are killing me too. It's from carrying around my 2 and half month old though. She's like 14 pounds already (I think I lactate ice cream) and the weight is just killing my wrists. I know I'm holding them wrong. I know exactly what you mean though, about getting pain that'll just shoot into your hand. I'm just trying to be really aware of keeping them straight and not bearing wieght on them. I've thought of getting those braces to really hold them in place, and maybe I'll start icing them when they really hurt.

You also may want to "upgrade" your mouse as I do spend a damn good amount of time online... and found that upgrading from your typical move-it-around mouse to a trackball mouse has helped greatly.

The one I currently use and bought for decent price off ebay:

Other trackball "mice" thanks to Logitech -- http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...U/EN,crid=2141

The great thing about the trackball as well is that the "ball" can be removed so you can clean it thus making it operate smooth all the time. My wrist problems as well as general other "mouse" problems (esp. in re: cleaning it) have almost disappeared.

Ibuprofen (Aleve & Mortin) work wonderful......BUT PLEASE do NOT use ice! Ice is used to reduce swelling. There is no swelling in the wrists, it is actually tendon & ligiment (sp) restriction!

Wrist braces work wonderful...the ones with magnets are the best! The magnets actually help to release the overtightening of the wrist!

I went to the doc for the first time with this problem over 10 years ago. I first thought it was carpel tunnel...but thank god it wasn't.

The pain is caused by pole moves and simple crawling that we all do!! One of the best exercises to help relieve it is simply hold your arms straight & tight...now flex fingertips first (don't make a fist), then flex to make a fist. You will feel it tighten all the way up the forearm. The doc gave me about 10 different exercises and recommended the magnet brace.

Actually tendonitis and sprains (inflammation of the ligaments) does occur in the wrist and recommended treatment for both includes ice. Tendonitis of the wrist frequently involves inflammation of the tendon sheath that the tendon runs through. Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by inflammation of the ligaments at the base of the wrist. When the ligaments become inflamed and swollen, they press on the median nerve, giving a tingly, numb feeling to your thumb and first two fingers.

To check for carpal tunnel, there are two tests to try. Do each for one minute:

Tinel's test: Hold your arm out in front of you, palm up. Flex your hand back, as if you were trying to touch the back of your hand to your forearm. Tap your wrist in the area of the creases right before it becomes the palm of your hand. Does any part of your hand go numb or tingly with this?

    http://www.med.und.nodak.edu/users/jwhiting/tinel.html

Phalen's test: Press the backs of your hands together, palms down. Your forearms should be at a ninety degree angle to your hands. Once again, do your hands go numb or tingly?

    http://www.med.und.nodak.edu/users/jwhiting/phalen.html

These are just screening tests. If you are having neurologic symptoms like numbness and tingling and they don't go away with home treatment, see a doctor that can do nerve conduction studies.
