u need to check on the people closest to you...how else would someone know what u have in your car and how to get into it?

also, NEVER play your equiptment loud in your apartment complex. when u pull into a parking lot, dont play your stuff loud on the way in. that way, people wont know what u have and itll be a less chance somone will take it while your in the store or wherever u are.

yea luckicharm, everyone has told about the not supposed to play ur music loud in an apartment complex but i didnt know that b4 for some stupid a$$ reason. if u have ever had or riden in an older mustand (not too old) u can see how easily the windows can be "pulled back" and something dropped in to unlock it or whatever they did....the window was not broken EITHER time....it just dumbfounds me cause ive locked my keys in it b4 and tried for hours to get them out....never worked for me

well if theyre that professional then there definitly wouldnt be fingerprints b/c they cant be that stupid to do something like that without gloves...i woudl report it to the apartment complex office and to the police, did u have insurance on your stuff?

it could be someone that lives close to you...do u live alone? if so, u need to have ur guy friends over alot for the next couple weeks so maybe whoever broke into your car will think u live with a bunch of guys and wont mess with you. my boyfriend has a very intimidating look (black, thuggish, and loud lol), i live in a rough apartment complex, but no one would dare mess with anything that belongs to me. also, make friends with your neigbors, because if they get to know you, they will tell you when they see something suspicious.

Unfortunately, it doesn't take but a few days for theives to "case" your car to see what they want to take.
Work your ass off and invest in a good car alarm. Remove everything from view when you lock your car up. EVen if you're going to leave again really soon. It doesn't take long to break into a car. Remove faceplates on stereos if you can. Put it under the seat or in the trunk (better yet, take it with you). Get a club. Anything to deter a theif from wanting to break into your car, do it. They could want to take the car itself next time-be careful. Park nearest to other cars and by lights if possible. You could even invest in a car cover to cover the car at night(even a simple cotton one, the point is to restrict view of inside/outside of car). More hassle= less likely to bother your car.
    Good luck.

    this is what robbers do.

they break in once, steal what they can and case the rest of the place.
if its worth going back a second time, they do.usually more prepared.

sometimes, theyl then wait a few weeks, or months, until they are sure you have replaced everything with insurance, and then do it again.

well, thats how robbers in nz work. statistics there show most houses get burgled again within a few months.always by the same people/group.

My apartment was broken into once, I know how vulnerable it makes you feel. Is there anyone you can stay with for a few days?

I wish I could offer you more significant help. All I can do is send good vibes.

Ugh I know how you are feeling right now. Feels like you are materialistically raped of your belongings. I totally cried when it happened to me less than a week before I was moving to SD. They fucked up everything down to my ignition, battery and locks.

Have you called the police to make a police report? Some insurance companies require this as part of the policy. Then I called my insurance company (hope you have insurance) and they had my car towed to one of the shops they said I could go to. Took about 3 days for them to put in a new stereo of some choice they gave me. I only paid $100 out of my own pocket. The rest was taken care of by my insurance.

I used to sell car alarms and THIS was very popular and worked as well. I recommend anything higher end by Clifford electronics. Sorry this happened to you and I hope everything gets fixed soon.

They are not after you... so I wouldn't worry about that.

They are after yer booty Arrrrgh!

Park it in front of your window and train a webcam with repeating pictures every 30 seconds. When something happens - hopefully you will have a couple pictures to show the police.

I would report it to the police and to the apartment complex. Come lease renewal time you can play the ole "bad neighborhood" argument on any increases they try to pull.

Maybe put a warning up in the laundry room too (if there is one.)

Ah yes, the ole favorite standby of comparing everything to RAPE! RAPE!

Since it happened to your car and not your house - you were actually "almost raped" materialistically.

Might try window tinting too. Most states have limits on the front 3 windows, but the rears can be as dark as you want- decreased interior visability

so, does car insurance cover this? Your renter's insurance might be worded in such a way like it covers all of your property no matter where it is (including in the car); I know mine is worded like that. Double check. It still sucks but maybe you could get most of it paid for.

While I can understand your utter obtuseness from time to time, simmer down. And since her car and all that was in it are part of her material possessions, yes, materialistically, she could be said to be raped. Now, it's not a metaphor (or in this case a simile) that I'm a fan of either, because property can be replaced. There's nothing to replace per se after a rape, and yet you feel like you have nothing left. So-- back to my original point, the simile is still sound (if you were trying to nullify it because it happened in her car instead of her house, I really don't see the connection you're trying to make.)

But, it does suck to be this young lady, so on that count: if you don't have anything nice to say, shut up.

No. She was robbed. She wasn't raped.

Otherwise I guess it is fine for me to say I was "raped" multiple times too. The next time a gal mentions the R word, I can say "Oh honey - I can totally understand how you feel. You know, when I was a sleep in my bed, someone broke into the car I wasn't in, and stole some CDs I could replace. I was RAPED I tell you."

Then when all the chickens are clucking away over that comment I can say "Hey, look - TigersMilk said it was perfectly OK to compare my being robbed to being raped."

What the both of you are doing is taking a terrible crime against a person's most valuable possession - their body - and diluting it by comparing it to a simple B & E on a car.

You are mad at me? I am mad at the both of you for diminishing rape so badly. I am not going to shutup on that.

I have to say that I've been raped and I've had my car broken into. Having my car broken into does not even come close to being raped. I have to agree with Deo on that (*gasp*). There is no comparison to being robbed and being raped. Being violated, maybe...but to say someone was RAPED when they're car was robbed is a bit insulting to those of us who have actually been raped.

no i dont have an alarm. and insurance will only cover permanent fixtures in the car, like my radio and misc. parts of the interior they broke to get to it. but as for my subs and amp, that is not permanent therefore they will not pay for it and we dont have a receipt anyways....my laptop is not covered by my car insurance either but there is a loop hole with that one. my fiance bought the laptop on his american express card and they r going to pay for it more than likely.....

You'd be better served getting a car alarm than darker tint.

Geez remind me not to use the word raped out of context even with a word before it to better define it. For those that have been raped and feel insulted by the misuse of the word I never meant to offend anyone.

There is a feeling of violation when you have been robbed. It's entirely appropriate and justifiable. I felt this was when I was robbed by some guys on the South side El in Chicago, even if they only got a couple dollars and were literally as polite as robbers could ever possibly be.

Rape is of course the worst possible sort of violation, and getting robbed cannot remotely compare to it.

However, I distinctly remember feeling a new sort of understanding for the horrible nature of this ultimate violation after my experience, even if I could in no way come close to really understanding it the way someone who has been raped would.

Regardless of the terminology used, pain/hurt/violation is relative to the individual and in the sense of fairness, I believe it's easy to look beyond what TM said and more towards the fact that she was just sympathizing with blondi. It was obvious she didn't mean to offend/start a tangented argument.

Blondi, good thing about the laptop! However the permanent fixtures thing in your clause for car insurance sounds pretty lame, is there a way you can increase coverage to cover your personal belongings?

Depending on the car and similar crimerate for the area you're in (rate of re-occurance) you'd be best advised to get a car alarm. It may even cheapen your insurance, but truth is, if you're in a bad area, the people who robbed your car know you'll most likely seek to replace the stolen items thus making them ripe to be stolen again.

    Sorry this happened to you.

BTW it takes about 5 seconds to brake into most Fords from the 80s and 90s (at least). The locks are disc wafers, you just have to jiggle the tumblers and turn.

I got really pissed off about the fact that I had my mustangs window smashed, and the lock pried with a screw driver which the asshole left as a fuck you. Both times for stereos that weren't worth 25% of the damage caused.
