    Default Dancer/Student's Income While Pregnant?

I found out I'm pregnant back in April. In the week before I found out, I'd bought a new car and moved into a new apartment. I decided that I just couldn't live with myself if I had an abortion and I know I'll be a good parent. My boyfriend dumped me when I told him I just couldn't abort so that's that.

The new car and new apartment kind of sucked up a lot of my savings. I managed to get out of my lease cheaply enough so don't have to worry about that, but if I were to sell my car now, it would be at a big enough loss that I'd still have to make payments on the car I no longer had. Also, I'd bought new b/c I really needed reliable transportation.

I've moved from DC to CT, back home with my mom essentially, to save money. I'm back at school full time, overloading classes to get as much done before the baby gets here (Christmas Day) as possible. My parents are paying for school and I'll be getting financial aid in the fall. My game plan is to finish my bachelors ASAP (btwn taking care of a newborn starting Jan'07, and working the earliest is Spring '0 and enter (Spring '09) a Direct Entry Master's in Nursing Program and pursue a career as a nurse practitioner (85K/yr.) or nurse anaestist (130K/yr).

I plan to return to the pole in Summer of '07 (provided my body recovers okay, not generally a problem in my family) and to receive child support this January/February '07. BUT my problem is what to do for an income until then (Summer '07)?

My monthly expenses are about $1000 which isn't much, but given that I'm in class 35 hrs a week now, and already tired all the time from being pregnant and stressed out, what job can I do Friday through Sunday (approx. 24 hrs/ week) that will give me enough of income to pay my bills (car, insurance, gas, cell, visa)? I could reduce my expenses by selling my car, but it would be at a loss of about 5k-6K since I just bought it new and then I'd have no way to get to school or work. I don't want to sacrifice my classes b/c at the end of that day, that's what's going to be best for me and this child in terms of putting me in a position for a really stable income, benefits, etc (and I can still dance for extra income). BUT what to do?

There have to be jobs, sources of income, etc. that maybe I haven't thought of. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Well, I don't know about where you're at, but here there are a few call centers, collections, sales, whatever, and they pay around 10 bucks an hour. Collections is good because weekends are the busiest times, and many call centers will offer incentives based on the money you collect. There are also a few call centers that take reservations for flights and such, like jet blue, that will allow you to work from your home. (They'll set up a computer and phone for you) Might be worth looking into, not super money, but it's fairly easy.

    Good luck!

try selling Avon. i did it for a while, i just didnt really put much energy into it. it costs like 10 or 15 $ for the star up kit, but u keep like 20-40% of what u sell. its really easy to do, especially u being pregnant. just give out the catalogs, put in orders online every other week, they mail u the products, u bag them us and give them out and collect the money, then u pay avon their percentage. depending on how many people will buy from you and how much u can sell, it has very good income potential.

If your pride won't get in the way, there are a ton of public benefits available for pregnant single women without an official income. These can provide subsidized medical insurance for yourself and for the baby, subsidized baby formula etc. after the baby is born etc. You already paid for these benefits via your income taxes, and you will continue to pay for them for the next 40 years worth of income taxes, so you might as well 'get some of your own money back' until you graduate and land a decent job with private health insurance for both yourself and the baby !

Well holy crap, do you ever sound organized! I think you'll be OK.

Loans aren't bad to take out, esp. if you know you're back to dancing in '07.

    Have you considered pregnancy modelling?

Do you have any services you can contract out...web design, editing, even cleaning?

You could be a massage girl in your club while you're showing...they're immensely popular up here, and I suspect some of them make more than a lot of the dancers.

^Not to threadjack, but what does being a massage girl entail exactly? Do all clubs do this? I'm assuming you don't mean...happy ending massages lol.

well, there ought to be something and it doesn't sound like you need to really earn that much right now. Have you thought of bartending or waitressing? Those jobs are really flexible though it might be rouch being on your feet that much pregant. Also could you change your school schedule some so you had more day hours to work a temp job or something? I worked full-time all through college so I know it's not easy but it can be done. A lot of times I took evening or weekend classes so I could work a day job.

Ah...no. No happy endings, lol. The girls walk around the club with a little basket with lotion, oil & other massagey stuff, and they sell neck massages to the clients for usually either $1/minute or $5/song. In most clubs on a busy night they seem to do good business.

A common excuse around here is "I came for a massage...do you know where the massage girl is?"

It's even better than "I just came for a beer".

Though some of the girls are reputedly actually trained in massage. I've seen one set up one of those fancy chairs where you lean forward and put your face in the hole, in the back of a club. She probably charged more.

Not that I agree with this but, my sister-in-law continued bartending throughout her pregnancy. The bar she worked at let her stay on her shifts and she still made good money. I'd guess that she may have even made more money while pregnant out of sympathy tips. I don't know if you're 21, but if you are, maybe you could do that.

Phone sex! I used to do it, but I've kinda stopped since I don't have a lot of free time. It was decent money and you never have to leave your house.

    Go here:

You create an account using a credit/debit card number and bank account info and the calls get directly transfered to your home or cell phone. You can change the settings to be 'available' when you are ready to talk or 'away' when you don't feel like working. They keep track of your earnings, time your calls and do all the billing for you. The money can be sent to you via check or direct deposit. It's all very easy for you and the callers to use, and it's pretty popular. All you have to do is advertise. They give you tips (like bidding to have your listing appear on the front page) on the website.

You can also create your own webpage and put up photos of yourself (you'll get more calls with photos - they don't have to be nude or of your face). The money is not consistent at first, but it's worth a shot, even if it's just a supplement to another part time job.

    Good luck and congratulations.
