When I worked at the Spearmint Rhino day shift paid out $7 per lap to the house, plus $1 a dance to the DJ and the manager both. So they took about half of each dance. So figure out of five dances they take $50 and I keep $50. Out of three dances they take $30 and I keep that plus the tip for $50. And I've done less work.

Question for the dancers, which would you prefer:

Assuming $20 a dance, same customer.

    A) 3 dances + $20 tip = $80 total

    B) 5 dances + no tip = $100 total

    No other choices allowed.

B, although, perhaps unexpectedly, I would like customer A better.

Hell I just wish the dances were in fact $20!
My answer was A because at the end of the shift you will have made more money. Situation A frees me up for 2 songs to go make another $40 on top of the nice amount made by the three dances with A. So it's just math (if you are busy and getting lots of laps) A:you end up making $120... B:you made the $100
Plus A comes off as a more generous guy even though he spent less.

    B.

I like to dance, I didn't expect tips over and above the dance price, and I'd rather have the extra $20.

You can make the question more interesting, though, by asking: What if these were your only choices for every transaction on a given shift...I'm trying to figure out which would be smarter...

For the sake of argument, let's say you sell to ten customers. Let's also assume that each song is 4 minutes long.

Option A would yield $800 for a total of 30 dances. At four minutes each, you've lapped for a total of 120 minutes (2 hours).

    Option B would net you $1000 after 50 dances (=200 minutes = 3.33 hours)

The average shift is 6 hours long = 90 songs. Say you have to be onstage for 15 songs total, that leaves 75 songs, which is enough time to allow for either option...But with Option A, you'd have ample time to sell more, and you'd only have to get three more takers to surpass the money you'd make with ten Option B customers. (Wow. this is getting complicated.)

Of course, if the club takes a cut of your lapdance money, Option A is smarter. But that's a practice I despise, and I pretty much refused to work at any club that did that.

So I still choose B. If nothing else, the extra 1.3 hours of lapdancing will make me feel busy, prevent me from getting hammered, and keep my ass in shape.

club often take a percentage of dance money, but not tip money

so it's really saying $65 in 3 songs or $75 in 5 songs.

A! even moreso if he's grabby.

Hardly anyone tips around here. Customer B, unless he's a dick. But I would probably like Customer A. Ideally, I would get Customer B out of the way and then go say hello to Customer A and dance for BOTH of them.

I went with customer B as well, but that's due to the way my club works. We're not one of the clubs that takes a cut of every dance EXCEPT for a chunk of the VIPs and the #@?&! 2for1. Aside from those two exceptions, we pay our house fees and the DJ and that's it. Lap dances, stage tips, and any other tips are all ours. If it were a club that takes cuts out of each dance, though, then I'd certainly prefer customer A.

Interesting that the poll is currently 50/50.

I chose customer 'A'. I work 9 hours, the less dancing I have to do the better.

(See, its time to move on for good this time.. ) =)

For me, it would depend on when I got the dances. We have to payout for out first 6 or 7 dances, then we cap out. I would definately rather have the 100 if I had already made my cap, but the 20 tip would help a bit. I would rather have more money though.

All other things being equal (both customer a and b aren't stinky or tools) I would rather have $100 than $80. My club doesn't take a cut, just a flat house fee, so I don't have to do any math beyond simple addition.

My club doesn't take a cut, and it's a slow slow hustle most nights, so I'd prefer customer B.

I can't see why any dancer wouldn't choose option B, since realistically, working the floor is a volume-oriented business vis a vis the VIP room/champagne room et al.

    Two cents.

^ Cause the extra 20 is NEVER garaunteed. So even if spread over multiple hours either 80 could be less per hour or 100 could be less per hour. However at end of night, 100 is still more than 80 regardless of tip to dance ratio over how long the shift is.
