I'm about to start apartment hunting for the first time...up until now I lived in a rental house with friends and I am not on the lease. I was wondering what should I tell apartment managers I do for a living? I would imagine they might deny me an apartment if I said I was a stripper. Seeing as I've never tried to apply for one, I could use any advice you can give me!
i did and ive never gotten treated any differently. they cant turn you down for what you do, as long as you can get proof of your income, like a statement from your manager. if they do, i believe that could be some sort of discrimination (correct me if im wrong). its not like your doing anything illegal.
You need to tell them what you do for a living. I use the term dancer, or entertainer on applications, simply because it's more accepted in society. Plus, they never know, you could be a ballet dancerYou just need to give proof of income. Make sure you have bank statements or something to back up what you make.
I believe you Dottie and you have my support
Look in the Dollar Den-Im positive there are some helpful threads on this subjectAnd Melonie is quite helpful.

here ya go!

To be honest some places will judge you for it- you have to remember that the landlord must approve the application. Now i know most landlords are just 'show me the money' but you do run the risk of coming across someone you presumes that because you are a stripper you will be having wild crazy porn parties 5 nights/week.
That said i have had amazing real estate agents who latched on to the fact that strippers had money and half the club ending up living at the complex 'cause they were so cool with dancers.
If you don't feel comfortable answering questions about the type of entertainer you are you could use 'promotional model', or alternatively, if they are going to check your work ref; try 'hostess' (which is technically only STREEETCHing the truth). If they still have a problem, tell them you'll pay quarterly in advance if they feel uneasy about your finnances-if you can prove you have the $$$ you will have no problem

I used generic terms like "performing artist" or "hospitality" I wouldn't use "hostess" it's a bit too generic and prostitutes use it giving people the wrong idea. Club business names are generic also, the ones that show up on customers credit card slips like "Joe Blogs resturaunt" or "A citizen holdings" I use those ones rather than the name of the club itself, but talk to whoevers contact number you put on the forms before you put them down or they won't know who the estate agent is talking about when they call.
Owners can judge you but so far I haven't been knocked back on a place, if they press me I say bar or promational work but one agent I found out was a regular at my work, he came in at lunch and I worked in the evenings so we never met.
