Default Hairdresser's fee vs Dancer's fees

I've heard that Hairdresser chair rental fees are the same as Dancer fees. Does anyone know if they have to pay five or six sets of employees, e.g. valet, bouncer, dj, bartender, housemom, VIP hostess, stage rental.... Do the chair rental fees cover the support staff or are they charged extra?

LOL....I think hairdressers are expected to tip more if they have a good shift too

Legally speaking, if an independent contractor dancer decides to make cash tips to other independent contractors i.e. bouncers, DJ etc. they can be deducted as a business expense. Legally speaking, if an independent contractor dancer decides to make cash tips to club employees i.e. bouncers, DJ etc. who actually receive paychecks from the club, this is considered to be a non-tax deductible gift.

So, if these people are paid employees then how can we, independent contractors, legally be compelled to tip them?

    You're asking in jest, right?
LOL, heck no, all the chair fees that I've ever heard of (I'm not a stylist) are all inclusive Clubs get away with that shit for obvious (greesy & greedy) reasons!

We aren't "legally" compelled, but you know how it goes, if you don't pay, you can take your ass somewhere else to play. Of course, Mel or someone will know thet technical/legal jargon for that.

Basically, if we all walked out, they'd have to stop that shit. However you know that ain't gonna happen girl! Somebody's baby always needs new shoes!

Let's open our own Juice bar!!!!

I believe that the technical term you're searching for is 'extortion' . But as you say, this business is what it is, and there's no shortage of willing dancers, such that any girl who bitches too loudly will probably find herself fired from that club and blacklisted as a 'troublemaker' from being hired by other area clubs as well.

^^^^Yes, I think that was the term I was looking for. Is this the Deja Vu payment plan? It started out being a tip to the DJ and now it's tip everyone, assume all the risk and gain none of the financial rewards.

I feel like I'm living in On the Waterfront. I gotta go up against corrupt thugs to be left the fuck alone.

^^^ if you think that the club side of finances is bad, pray that the IRS never gets ahold of you ! If they choose to, the IRS can act like the worst thugs you have ever dreamed of, and with the force of law behind them !

I'm a faithful, though cranky taxpayer so they can bite me! Clubowners are making it far less attractive to dance. Dancing for me was about taking a risk socially and professionally for potentially worthwhile rewards. It's becoming just another tipped job with uncommon and intolerable headaches.

^^^ As somebody who personally experienced both the financial and 'cultural' changes in the exotic dancing industry over that past 10+ years, I have to agree completely. IMHO the industry has gradually migrated from a dancer being a highly paid well respected 'show business' performer to a marginally well paid usually disrespected 'sex industry' worker. And the disrespect now comes from club customers as much as it does from American society in general. This was the reason that I retired from live dancing ... because the earnings potential simply doesn't justify the bullshit anymore ... bullshit from clubowners/management, bullshit from club customers wanting the 'whole enchalada' for $20, bullshit from other dancers (some of whom resemble the hollywood stereotype a lot more closely than I like to admit), bullshit from local politicians/cops/judges, bullshit from the IRS etc.

High five! The turning point for me came when I felt disrespected by managers. I'm workin' up to a rant! Back in the day when I made $20 an hour before I took a tip, the managers seemed to like the girls and cared that they were reasonably happy. In north Jersey we were like little local starlets. Now these punky idiots running the clubs have an air of contempt for dancers. They devise idiotic schemes to offload cost after cost onto dancers and give you a smug take it or leave it attitude. They run club after club into the ground until they're brothels, then sell out. Geniouses! Ugh!

^^^ it's the same globalization phenomena which is affecting virtually every other American industry. In this case one global economic element can be attributed to the 'importation' of eastern european dancers to east coast states - girls who are often very beautiful but who came from an economy where providing club customers with a whole lot of contact in exchange for very little money was the norm.

Not only did the proliferation of eastern european dancers in east coast clubs affect customer expectations and spending habits for the worse, but it also allowed clubowners to increasingly think of their American dancers as expendable / replaceable / interchangeable. This led to clubowners becoming reasonably assured that no matter how they ran their club, no matter what sort of fees they charged, no matter what sort of stupid rules they enacted, no matter how much legal animosity was brewing with local officials and cops, that they could always find enough beautiful and willing girls to fill their stage. This spelled the end of any sort of 'celebrity performer' status for dancers, the beginning of a 'my way or the highway' attitude on the part of clubowners, the transition of dancers into being 'sex workers', and the beginning of an 'anything for a buck' business philosophy on the part of most clubowners and many dancers. This was the point where I decided to quit live dancing.
