Default Proving income for apartment application

I'm applying to an awesome apartment that's about $125 more per month than my current place. I was gainfully employed with normal work when I got my current place, but now I'm between day jobs and stripping full time. I can't really use my tax records to prove my income -- I danced for all of twelve days in 2005, and this year has been one financial crisis after another, so I haven't been paying my estimated taxes either.
What do I do to prove to the landlord that my boyfriend and I will be able to cover rent on the place? (Boyfriend has a day job, but it's only about $28k a year, which would be awfully tight to cover a $1k/month apartment by itself.)

    Help?

i have used bank statements and typed up fake employment letterheads. ive also used my credit card to deposit the amount of the full term of the lease into my regular bank account to prove i can pay for it, then just transfer the money back to my credit card. that is usually a 50 dollar fee to do.

I used my bank statements of 3 months to prove I make X amount of money. For me it was 3 times the rent in order to prove I was rent worthy. Find out how much you and your bf need to make in order to get your apartment.

I am sorry if I seem harsh.

Given your financial situation are you really able to afford this apartment? Will this added expense put you both over the edge financially? Have you made a budget to see how you can afford this new place?

We've gone from me making ALL the money in the house (that is, paying rent/utilities/groceries because he was in school and then wrecking my car/needing two surgeries this year) to both of us being gainfully employed. The extra hundred+ dollars in rent is so very worth it for a landlord that actually responds to our maintenance requests within the week.

    Current place: $825/month
New place : $950/month + heat in winter

By winter, I should be gainfully employed at $30k+; my last day job (at $29k) was a contract position for the year only and ended at the beginning of June.
And yes, even if I'm still just dancing come winter, we'll be able to afford the new place and still be putting money in savings, even with cats, cell phones, heat bills, and all that jazz.

    Ack!
    Any help?
The manager of my club told me to put down "entertainment sales" on the form, but I'm not too keen on handing over a bank statement to a potential landlord, and I don't think the Excel file I've been using to keep track of my income will cut it. Should I hurry hurry hurry and try to submit my estimated taxes for the first and second quarters by Saturday and give that to my landlord, or will that be more trouble than it's worth?

I only danced for one month last year, and it was my first month dancing, so I was averaging $300 a week at two nights a week. I'm trying to get a $1000/month apartment, I don't want to try and explain how I'm working more than 2 nights a week now that I don't have a normal job and how my average has crept up to $300 a night -- landlords are a nice church-going married couple with a small child. I don't think they'd totally disapprove, but the less it's discussed the less they're going to be freaked out about it.

Never buy into a place based upon income you SHOULD be getting. If you don't have it now, then don't depend on it. I've been there, done that and anything can happen.

As for the bank statements, I just blacked out all of the important info (account numbers, etc) then photocopied it (so it's truly blacked out) and turned that in.
