    Default Ooohh, Audition today!

Blaaargh, I'm so nervous! What if I fall? What if they say I look fat (I don't.)? What if... what if... what if aliens attack and I'm abducted in my thong and pasties?

Lol, I hope I get hired. I've never danced before but I've heard this is a good local club to start out at.

    Eeeeeeek!

Good luck, Mercy! You'll kick ass. Come back and post about what a wonderful first night you had and how much you loved it and you want to do it forever and ever... then you can go back and read it a year later on the bad nights like I do.

Aww, Yek, you're such a sweetheart! I'm going to dance to that 'Candy' song you suggested.

I have a pretty good sense of humor, so I guess even if I dn't get hired I'll just make fun of myself and move on. But still!

    Aw Jeez...

I feel like a doofus. I went in, all shaky but smiling, danced to one song, collected tips ($15—woohoo!) and went back upstairs to change. When I came back down, the bartender ( an older lady who was really nice) took me aside and said that I was really cute, and had a nice body, but that I needed to work on my stage routine. She told me to practice every day this week and then to come back next Monday when I had "more of a routine" down, and stressed that she really wanted me to come back in a week.

    *sigh*

I am going to go back, but I feel like a big loser right now.

Don't feel like a loser! It sounds like you have a lot of promise and you just need more practice. So practice, and wow 'em next week with how much you improved!

Congrats on doing your thing mercy! Atleast you went in and didn't back out.. it feels good to know that you know what to expect the next time!

Certainly practice does make perfect. I practice to the songs I dance too and the moves in the mirror atleast a hour a day.. but as soon as I perform it, I'll mix it up so it won't look too choreograph...

    Good luck again!

I had exactly the same thing happen to me. I was told to put a routine together then go back in a week and I got the job so I wouldn't worry. I think sometimes its just to see how serious you are about the job.
You will be fine practise in front of a mirror or some good friends and ask them for tips on improoving etc.
Just go in on your next audition and enjoy yourself! Trust me confidence goes alot further than grace sometimes!

Aww, thanks you guys—you really are helping me feel better about this. I was pretty bummed yesterday, but now it's not so bad.

What does she mean by a 'routine,' anyway? I did a search on here and a lot of girls say that they don't use one. I mean, I'm not a fucking cheerleader, you know?

You'll be JUST FINE, I'm sure of it. I think what she means by routine is having a few standard highlights to your 'act'. It's very true that unless you're into a big burlesque show or are a feature, there's really not much of a 'routine' in the traditional sense of detailed choreography and specific musical cues, but most dancers have a few tricks and treats up their proverbial sleeves that they do in many if not all sets. It can be pole tricks (though no one expects you to know these when you first start), little audience participation maneuvers like holding out the tie of your halter or bikini for them to pull and undo, whatever. You always have to improvise rather than plan every single move out, since the music is always changing and you have to adapt what you're doing to the crowd, but think of it as a very structured inprovisation.

I would recommend, if there's any other clubs in your general area - even if you have to drive an hour or so - that you spend at least a couple of nights this week going and watching other dancers at work. Even if they aren't the greatest clubs in the world, you're bound to see at least a few crowd-pleasing moves that you can take back to your own club. Even really simple-to-execute stunts (like taking dollars off a customer's forehead with your boobs) can be fun for the audience. If you have a just few of these easy things under your belt, then you're in!

And yes, wear your stripper shoes CONSTANTLY!

Y'all are so sweet. I actually frequent strip clubs quite a bit—once a week or so, but my keen eye for observation is usually soon eclipsed by booze and beautiful ladies.

I *do* need to wear my shoes more often. I decided that even if I don't get hired at this club, which really is the only one around here I'd want to be employed at, I'll try to get a job at one of the crappier local ones until I've improved enough.

Thanks so much for the pep talk, sweeties. I really appreciate it.

Seriously.. When I first started dancing, I worked at a upscale club where all the ladies knew what they were doing! I had no confidence or anything.. I didn't have a clue what to do on stage, I didn't know how to work the pole, and didn't know how to interact with the custys..

So I left there and started working at a local "crappy" club BUT safe (That's important!) It was more of a easier way to practice doing moves till I got good LOL. Then as I got better after like 2 months, then I went back to my old job (the upscale place).

Did you figure out a "routine" yet? I would say some staple moves that make you comfortable and make you look great are what I use... (the back arched, head on floor while rubbing titties move seems to go over well in any chica's act, and overall touching of self i'd think...)

and I am curious, as to what you did? Did the lady elaborate on what she wanted to see?

    Love it!

Chrissy: Naw, she didn't elaborate too much on what I did wrong, she just said, "Practice your moves and get more of a routine down, and come back in a week." I haven't really figured anything out yet, maybe do less on stage? I sort of ran the gamut when I was up there (pranced around, twirled around the pole, laid on my back and rubbed my boobs, everything). Maybe next time I'll do less stuff for a longer amount of time.
Hey—I see you're from Philly. Yay Philly!

Cocoa: Yeah, seriously. I guess the clubs around here are safe (meaning I don't hear about anything bad happening at them) it's just that they're not top-quality places at all.
