Default Anyone know of a good, resonable place for laptop repair in Los Angeles?

One of my cousin's co-workers has a broken Dell laptop, about a year old, but wasn't able to tell me which model. I'll get that info from him at the end of theweek. He said the screen is bad , and I guess he doesn't have the extended warranty.

Anyone know of a good laptop/notebook repair place in the greater Los Angeles area? Thanks!

    Don't know any of myself.

I can however offer some advice, as I have just done some of my own laptop repairs.

Firstly, double-check the warranty. I think most are sold on a three-year warranty, but it may depend on what is damaged, and the level of laptop.

Find out what a new laptop will cost. Find out how much a second hand laptop of the same type will cost you? If you choose second hand, all you would have to do then would be to move the HD to the new computer. Weigh this price against the cost of repairs. See if an extended warranty can be purchased to cover the repair without mentioning that it needs to be repaired. Dodgy I know, but I have seen it done many times.

You will find that if anyone is going to have a look, you'll have to pay for it. Most physical/hardware problem diagnosis involves, about 2 hours disassembling the laptop. You can always purchase spare parts and have someone else install them. Just make sure you get the right stuff.

The screen is bad can mean a whole hell of a lot.

Is it broken physically, like a crack or a loose connection? A truly broken LCD can run between 250- Purchase price of new laptop.

Is the screen dim? This usually requires a new inverter, and while they can be found cheap, it will cost more to install them.

Laptop reparis are not cheap for $AUD 160, I did my own repairs, and it would run me at least $AUD400 (and probablly much much more) to have someone else do it. I do of course have lots of PC hardware and software experience. Laptop DIY is not for the faint of heart.

I have zero helpful info here - I know diddlysquat about computers and I'n mowhere near LA. But I have to share that I misread the thread as "Anyone know of a good, resonable place for lapdance repair in Los Angeles?" Hmm, well, this WOULD be the place to find it, that's for sure! MY brain is being warped by all this strippery, clearly.
