    Default rapist/murderer in hood

I have been out of town for a while, and I just found out that there is a serial killer/sniper/ rapist operating in the area that my club is located.Apparently, he shot one of his victims directly across the street from where I work and this fucking psycho raped a mother and daughter just down the way. This has made national news and I am scared to even go into work. I live in a "safe" area but it is still frightening to me...What is wrong with people these days? Does anyone know about this ?

There are probably hundreds if not thousands of rapists and murderers there, just like anywhere else. What's your point?

The point is that this guy is shooting people on the street .In broad daylight..DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET..and targeting women from this specific area....and I know that there are predators everywhere, but I have never been exposed to this type of immediate threat and I am wondering if I am being overly cautious ....or overreacting?

There are crazy's everywhere. My best friend is being stalked by a convicted rapist. He's tried to break her door down twice. As for the sniper. He has to copy from someone else! i.e. the Washington sniper. If you're that worried get a gun(make sure u take a class to know how to use it! a gun can always be used against you if u are not up to par w/gun use) or take self def. classes. Be aware of your surrondings at all times. Hopefully the dumbass will get caught soon.

I'm a big fan of being armed and knowing how to properly handle your firearm... but that's not much use against a sniper. I would definitely avoid the area, and anyplace else one might reasonably assume he is operating. Call me paranoid, but I don't drive on the 110 either (there have been a lot of random shootings on I-110 over the past year).

This must be the Baseline Rapist I've been hearing about.

The thing is, the police think that there may be as many as three different people responsible for all this.

Then she will be a victim if she does not take steps to protect herself.

    WOMEN, 911 AND GUNS

American women are often taught to rely on emergency 911 police
responses in the event of physical aggression. Unfortunately, more
than 95 percent of 911 calls are not dispatched to police in time to
stop a crime or arrest a suspect.

This sad statistic is unlikely to improve significantly in the near
future because almost every state has ruled that police have no legal
obligation to protect citizens from crime.

The slowness of 911 emergency response -- and the ineffectiveness of
restraining orders issued by today's courts -- suggests that
self-defense may be a better option, according to attorneys Richard
Stevens, Hugo Teufel and Matthew Biscan.

"A woman with a firearm...can credibly threaten and deter an attacker
of any size, shape, or strength," they write in THE WOMEN'S
QUARTERLY. "Even though weaker and unskilled in the use of firearms,
she can sometimes protect herself with a sidearm without firing a
shot. In more than 92 percent of defensive gun uses, the defender
succeeds by firing only a warning shot or never firing the gun at
all." (The article is excerpted from their chapter in the Independent
Institute book LIBERTY FOR WOMEN: Freedom and Feminism in the
Twenty-first Century, edited by Wendy McElroy.)

The above may help explain why, in recent years, women have
reportedly purchased firearms and enrolled in gun-safety classes in
    record numbers.

Stevens, Teufel and Biscan conclude: "Individual women in peril quite
frequently fare better when they develop skill and confidence in the
carrying and using of defensive firearms. Victim disarmament ("gun
control") laws that discourage women from developing the skills and
using defensive firearms actually heighten the risks of criminal
violence that women face. Such laws place women at a disadvantage
against violent men and run against the feminist goal of equal
    treatment under the law."

See "Disarming Women," by Richard W. Stevens, Hugo Teufel III, and
Matthew Y. Biscan (THE WOMEN'S QUARTERLY, Summer 2002)

A longer version of this article appears in LIBERTY FOR WOMEN:
Freedom and Feminism in the Twenty-first Century, edited by Wendy
    McElroy. See http://independent.org/tii/content/briefs/b_lfw.html

Anyone in Phoenix should be worried.

Police think there may be as many as three serial killers.

One MO is the sniper who drives by to shoot the victim.

Another is a rapist who is very aggressive and has attacked couples, shooting the male then raping and killing the woman.

It is very bad - I'm suprised it hasn't hit the national news yet.

    Ugh. A few suggestions-

*Switch up your routine. If no one can predict your day-to-day movements, you are less likely to be targeted. YES I know there are killing-at-random fruitballs like the Washington DC sniper team, but those are rarer.

*Don't go outside at night alone...don't go into rooms in your house without checking to see if someone could be inside (I saw one "The First 48" [cop show] where a rapist/killer hid in the apartment of a young woman, then killed her in the 20 minutes it took for her to come in & try to grab her workout gear for a trip to the gym. This was in Las Vegas. The rapist was shot DEAD by cops at the scene of his second and last murder.)

    * Safety in numbers. Make other people part of your life. Have friends & family visit you at home, enter & leave your place of work with someone...Don't get drunk at work & leave visibly impaired...predators are always looking for an easy in if they haven't had a chance to scope you out...

I KNOW some of you get mad when I make "paranoid" warnings like this, but my lifetime has taught me better safe than sorry....Once caution becomes a habit you don't feel as if "paranoia has hijacked your life". Just because you're a nice person who doesn't think like a lowlife predator doesn't make you immune to bad people. "Trust in God, but lock your car."

I would like to add that this should NOT be the only thing you have in mind when going armed. If you have a gun, you must plan for using it and learn how to do so safely. And NEVER pull a gun unless you are 100% prepared to shoot to kill. Warning shots, hell. If I feel threatened enough to shoot, I'm aiming for the center mass.

Depends on the situation. The writer was simply telling the stats, which shows in the vast majority of events, just showing the gun will end the problems as most criminals types are looking for victims, not a gun fight. I agree with you totally that if you chose to carry a gun, you should have some training in how to use it and be able and willing to use it to defend your own life or that of another. BTW, I think the truth is most people's "warning shots" of which he speaks are really shots that missed their intended target. Stats find that over 80% of the time, police miss their target, and it's probably worse for non LEO. From a legal perspective, warning shots are always a bad idea as the law considers any threat great enough to use deadly force does not justify warning shots. On onething we both agree: no restraining order, lock, or calling 911 will save a women from some a-hole crazy type hell bent on doing them harm. If i were a women, you can be sure i would be armed.

Oh, definitely. 911 is worthless in a real emergency, and restraining orders are only good for helping murder convictions. You can call 911 and hope the police get there with guns in time to save you, or you can cut out the middle man and have your own damn gun.

Just be sure you have all the proper permits, preferably a concealed-carry.

I really have to go with Yekhefah here. If you have a gun, and pull it, you must be ready and capable to kill. I tend to place a high value on most human life. I really don't like guns. The thing I hate the most is when someone thinks a gun will protect them, and all they have to do is point. Predators can see weakness. If you use a gun you must be prepared to take a life to save yours, or another’s. Yes, a gun can be a deterrent, but only when you can convince the other party you will actually pull the trigger. Will is right, to an extent most people do miss with a gun. Taking human life no mater how despicable that life is, is a hard decision to make. If you don’t have Jack Bauer determination, having a gun may not work for you.

I know I’m getting my current child and any future children, martial arts training, and self-defense training when they are old enough. The hardest thing is reacting to this kind of situation; so many people fail to take any kind of action that will save them. The shock of being in the situation paralyzes them.

Phoenix looks like it got the short end of the stick in this situation. I’m hoping those of you there are taking precautions. I’m also going to hope you get some cooler weather. I’ve seen a lot of studies that link heat, or heat waves with violent crimes. Anything is worth a shot in that kind of mess.

Me I would find some way to saftey. madmaxine I don't think your paranoid at all. Have you ever noticed that no one ever really looks in the the back seat of thier car before they enter it?

It certainly seems that the situation is serious enough to warrent taking precautions.

If these individuals are targeting a specific area (in this case your club) then finding another place to work goes without saying. If they are moving about (such as was the case in DC) then I'm not sure changing clubs will have any real effect. In this case it's random chance as to whether you are targeted or not.

This has been covered on national news. I just saw something briefly on CNN. It doesn't make me want to rush into work especially since the shooting took place in the car wash directly accross the street. I'm thinking of working in Scottsdale and maybe getting a boyfriend. ...
