Does anyone have any ideas on how to celebrate his birthday?
I wanted a small get together with family but that's all i have.

Family/friends always a must. Some go big, some small. Make sure you have a nice cake, and a video. I'll be back later, my son is 3 and wants some train building.

I went big for all 3 of mine on their first birthdays. We had family around so everyone was invited and came.
I highly recommend getting (or making) a little tiny cake for just your Son to tear into. They LOVE it! You can just let them go crazy with it (and they do!). Just lay down a tarp or something.. LOL
Just don't do what I did on my Son's birthday. He was my first, and I got all depressed because he wasn't a baby anymore. 10 months after his 1st birthday, we had our second baby.. Heh
If it's warm then hold the party outside. Get some helium balloons (little kids love them). A small cake is a good idea too.

I remember my son tucking into his smallish cake, and then shoving his grandmother’s face into it. As my family in Australia consisted of just his grandparents, and my wife and myself, we could only do a small one. Some friends went overboard renting halls, having a family reunion.
The first one is really for the Mom and Dad (even family and friends) to celebrate, on passing through that first year. It sure is special. I wouldn’t go back. I enjoy watching anime with him and actually communicating with him. I'm just glad his is through the terrible twos.
Baloons dropping from the celing would also be nice. If your going to have lots of family with children, get someone to entertain them. I found that works really well.

I got a box and decorated it and had little slips of paper and had every guest write a wish for the baby on it.

I don't remember any of my b-day parties until about the age of 7 or so . But I saw the pictures and it looked like I was having a great time lol .
^ ya I think the first birthdays are definately for the family. But take lots of photo's so you can show him when he's older!
A small get together sounds great Damia, just get a few decorations and some snacks and drinks. Help him blow out some candles and have a good time.
I went to three first birthday parties recently and they were all nice. One was outside and very adult lots of food and family members. The second was a mix of kids and adults and the mom had a bunch of cupcakes that she had out and then little bowls of sprinkles for kids to decorate their own. That was pretty cute. The last one I went to was nuts. It seemed like a million little kids running around. Probably there were only 5 or 6. They did the barbeque thing and she had a little cake for her birthday boy to dig into.
Anyway, I'm sure it'll be a special day, Happy Birthday to him!
