    Default Cabaret!

I watched Bob Fosse's Cabaret the other day and I never noticed how sexy Liza Minelli is. I wonder if any strippers who also can sing have ever thought of doing a cabaret-style show, like when Liza does "Mein Herr."? I couldn't do it 'cause I don't sing, but wouldn't it be cool to see a dancer in an outfit just like Liza's (maybe skimpier, but that black top hat she wears is wonderful), and do a stage show using a chair and singing that song?

I imagine it would be hard to pull off, but it would be so cool to see if someone did it. I doubt many customers will have seen Cabaret and recognize it, though.

Any thoughts? Anyone ever seen this done?

Strippers do it all the time and call it Burlesque. No money in it...yet.

You mean how sexy Liza Minelli WAS? These days she looks like an elderly drag queen, which is sort of what she is. I do love her on Arrested Development, though.

Plus it will eventually take off... it is still very much early days for it... it can lead onto other avenues of income such as being a teacher and holding classes on strip-tease "for the everyday woman" without the sleezy connotion that being a stripper can have at times... or well.. that's what I'm hoping...

I want to eventually hold classes in strip-tease, lap dancing and pole dancing (of course I would employ someone else for the pole dancing part due to my lack of talent in that area).

That's too bad there's no money in burlesque. It's weird.. you'd think that the more talent you showcase, the more money you'd make. Sigh...

Stripping to "Mein Herr" would be terribly difficult because you really HAVE to dance fosse to it, you know? The music is very much made for fosse dancing, and while fosse is very sexy, it's very different from the normal stripping style of dance. Now if you had a chair, and the outfit, and were actually singing, then I think the fosse would work if you knew how... But just dancing fosse to that song without singing would be too hard, I think.. :-/

hmmm.... it would be dancing fosse... but fosse dancing has some sharp moves and maybe be too fast to dance for stripping...

Even though it would be hella fun...

Has anyone ever seen strippers at their club try to dance like professional dances?? IF so, what were your recations and the custys reactions?

^^^ I'd take a class off me too! except in the pole dancing department. I want a "school" that is aimed at the everyday woman as well as those of us who do this professionally/for income. I would either try to buy out an existing similiar business or work within it..............then eventually branch out on my own once I've established myself.

'Almost no business in show business

' "You never feel that you've got enough money to live," says Sean Martin Hingston, a featured dancer in the Broadway hit Contact, who's been earning a living as an actor, singer, and dancer since he was 18. "When we started Contact, we were doing a workshop, making $311 a week. Now that it's a hit, I've been stashing the money away because I don't know when there's going to be a drought."

'The minimum weekly salary for actors on Broadway last year was $1,215, and Off Broadway minimums range from $440 to $763. But Actors' Equity confirms that fewer than 15 percent of its dues-paying members work during any given week and the average annual earning for an actor in 1999 was $14,936.'

Yep. Goes over like a lead balloon. The club DJ's don't know how to announce it, the customers are like WTF?? The other dancers like it and the occasional female patron, but mostly it is out of place in a strip club atmosphere.

Talent is only a portion of what is needed to be successful at anything. Marketing is a bigger portion of what is needed to be a success. The band Nirvana is a perfect example of good marketing of talentless losers.

Youch! LOL I love Nirvana! Just goes to show how subjective evaluations of talent can be. But I agree that not all skill sets are a matter of opinion--for instance, a person may or may not be able to do a split, do acrobatics on a pole, or dance en pointe.

I also believe some people have a gift for marketing.

And of course, success means different things to different people. As I posted above, a Broadway dancer might gauge success by working frequently, getting into a major show, the respect of his or her peers, winning awards, or passing auditions, rather than solely by the amount of money they make.

But money doesn't suck, as an indicator--what would we do without it?

Ahhh! Nirvana! Kurt Cobain was a musical genius. And a tortured soul. Yes, he had depression and yes, he killed himself (which seems "stupid" and "selfish" to people who don't knwo what depression is like). But g'damn that boy could write a song.

Sorry. I had to get that out.

The best dancers I've seen at my local club all had a fair bit of dance training and
used it. I'm just your basic customer-type, but it seemed to me that they were the
ones who got the most private dances and good stage tips.

The irony of one of them using "Dance 10, Looks 2" was probably lost on most
of the rest of the people in the place.

Too many of the guys come for the pseudo-sex. They don't come for a stage show. That's not how the gentlemen's clubs are marketed.

has anyone been to a midnight showing of rocky horror picture show? the ones around here, they have a girl do a strip tease during the opening credits, and i think it's absolutely amazing (most of the time.... if the girl knows what she's doing!). i've thought about trying to do it on stage, but i'm not sure if 1-anyone would know what the hell i'm doing, 2- if anyone would like it as much as i do.

Burlesque is starting to pick back up, in my opinion.

At least it is starting to in brisbane. And boy does it look appealing.
