    Working without alcohol?

The morning after fogginess is starting to get to me and I've decided to best to taper down my alcohol consumption now that I'm working more shifts. I've tried to do it before but it is frustrating to make conversation with custies while sober. I'm only going to stick with beer tonight.

Does anyone have any tips for a alcohol free shift? Do you make more money or less when sober?

That's a tough one. I know where you're coming from, though. My drinking was definitely at its peak when I worked full-time in San Francisco. I have found that changing clubs for awhile to establish a new, healthier work pattern has always worked for me. If you can't switch to one of the clubs in the City, try taking a working vacation to a different city.

Working in a "conversation" club is just not my cup of tea anymore. Last time I worked in SF (back in May, at Hustler), I just did the "wannadance" routine which worked pretty well for me. That way, I don't have to always be "on" and making conversation. Maybe try switching it up a little and not trying to spend so much time with each customer.

Good luck, drinking at work is a difficult cycle to break.

i rarely drink at work, mostly because i worry too much about letting my guard down. it also keeps me from actually verbalizing the 347 snappy saracstic remarks that go through my head each shift.

i would imagine that it will just take a little time to break the habit and to get used to being sober at work. and feeling better in the morning will probably make it worth having to deal with annoying guys while still in a lucid state of mind.

I'm not much of a drinker, so I never drink at work. That's just my personal choice. I've found that day shifts really stressed me out because of how much conversation and little payout there was. However, working at night, especially to the end of the night where the guys are scrambling for dances before the club closed is what helped me.

I think it also helped to do things a bit selfishly:
I'd dance to the music that I wanted to dance to and would lift my spirits up rather than the type of songs that would seem sexy. These songs, like Baby got back, I would dance for me, and because I'd get that little happy moment, the crowd would notice it and I would feel energized when I got back on the floor.

Also-- the last club I worked had a kitchen, and each night I would get a bowl of strawberries and whipped cream. Instead of eating in the back, I would go out and sit with someone. This way, they felt special, I got to eat without needing to make conversation, and hopefully after my "rest break" I'd get dances. This helped me a lot.

Try to figure out what you're doing differently when you're inebriated. Can you get into this "zone" or something close to it without the alcohol?

Also-- when I get really irritated, I'll put it into my dancing. And when even that is not helping, I try to make the next hundred and get the hell out of there. Forcing myself to stay doesn't work for me. I suppose that's the nifty part of alcohol-- for a lot of people, they just don't give a shit anymore.

Good Luck-- that's definitely a tough job trying to alter a work habit that you've had going for awhile. I hope that it works for you, and if it doesn't and you go back to consuming more alcohol at work, that you get your money and stay safe.

I just dont drink. If I do its one.. and only like once a week if that. Im not a drinker. I realised I make more money sober. Just carry a bottle of water with you. You are mentally depentant on the alcohol you just need to get over it.

I remember my very first time stripping, and I did it stone sober. I did fine, and I have never ever drank while working. I have seen so many other girls walking around drunk and looking all sloppy as they clunk their way across the floor from guy to guy. Just seeing that, I know I certainly don't want to be walking like a pregnant yak with four clopped hooves!! And also, alcohol is just full of empty calories....too much will show on the waistline!!

I go through phases. Sometimes I can work off red bull for a month. Then I need a glass of wine at least once a night for the next month. I don't work well with a buzz though.

I haven't found much of a difference between when I work drunk or sober. I just make sure I spend SOME days working sober so I don't forget how to do it.

Sober all the way! Ever since I started doing this business. If I drink, my mind switches over to "party mode" which is never a money making mode. Sober keeps me focused.

For me switching from hard alcohol to beer did not work. I just found myself drinking more beer- which has way more calories, and eventually going back to drinking whatever.

I discovered I was alcoholic and sought treatment. Now that I don't drink anymore at work, I make more money and I'm happier. I noticed that many of the girls with lots of drama going on are the ones that have to get drunk or high every night. Like another girl said before- when you're sober you see how whack some of the girls look when thy're drunk- and I'm like, "Did I look like that?"

When I first started dancing I was very young, and I got caught up in the whole fantasy/party thing. Sure sometimes it's going to be easy to make a custy feel comfortable and like he's having the time of his life if you are downing shots with him- but it's not healthy to do this to your body every night. I eventually became sick and was treated for gastritis- an illness associated with acid reflux that can be caused by excessive drinking.

The only thing that sucks about not drinking now is that I have to explain why I don't drink- but it's not that big of a deal, and sometimes I don't even say I don't drink- I just say I'm taking a break or something.

i do it sober, if i have a high paying customer, and he will book me longer if ihave a few drinks with him, then ill have one. maybe two. and thats a huge exception. i get maybe one customer like that every few weeks-month.

i really dont understand these girls who come to work, and get pissed every night. its annoying to other dancers, it looks shiitty on the clubs image, im getting close to saying something to the chicks at my work. its a fucking nasty look. weird thing is, these girls arent even getting paid for it! i can understand, in a club where you make say $50 off a bottle fo champagne if a custy buys one, but these girls appear to be buying their own drinks and getting hammered,at the end of the night in the changing rooms they are loud, rude and freaking unacttractive.

It's a good idea to work sober. I still feel kind of foggy and it's 5 hours! It'll be a busy night tonight because of the Semi Con Convention. Hopefully, I can get into the 'zone' without alcohol, if all else fails - I'll have a beer.

I just can't do it when I'm fully "sober"... I stutter and I get too shy to come up to anyone. I do much better after a drink (then even better after I do a few dances)... but I never get "drunk".

I personally rather not be drunk in heels, on a tall stage... I dont want to give Murphy better odds LOL...

Honestly? IMHO, if you NEED to be drunk to strip, find a new line of work...

I don't drink period. Inside or OTC. I can say that being drunk or having a pretty good "buzz" never looks good, and if you ever spend your own money getting drinks then theres probably a problem. We have a few girls who drink too much while working, and they never seem to make that much money.

    That's awesome!
I haven't had a drink in over two years, but I know that if I were to drink while I were working I simply wouldn't be able to focus on making money. I'd just want to party. Plus I like knowing that I'm putting myself in a position of power over my customer by remaining sober.

    Good luck!

I've also found that it can depend on the type of club you're in. Some clubs, the guys prefer the sober, intelligent, able to hold a conversation type. Others, like the one I work in, seem to prefer the dumbed down, drunk, silly types. In part because at my club, the more the girls drink, the more p***y they show and the guys love it. I dont really drink at work, and when I do I never get passed buzzed. I could make more if I got drunk, but I refuse to do that.

if all else fails, take moment to yourself and think of something funny or call someone to make you laugh. maybe take a moment to center yourself (i like to stretch, it centers me and i feel better after). DONT just have a beer because all else is failing. i work sober all nights i work and the girls who work and drink just dont make what i make. they sit longer with custies, they don't hustle all the time. I feel your pain, I just quit smoking pot (which was a mental dependance), but all it takes is WILLPOWER girly, even when everyone aroudn you is doing what you aren't! YOU CAN DO IT!

    Love it!

I made more money sober. I drank my bottled waters every shift. Maybe 2 drinks maximum. I banked $$ mad loot sober. When I was drunk, I wasnt on point w/ my game. I caught myself talking to the customers for longer periods of time instead of hustling and getting dances/Chmp. rooms $$

Aside from the fact that I'm under age, I absolutely refuse to get drunk at work. I feel I need to have a clear head to make money. That way I'm more cognizant of time and when I'm up and what the customer is saying. I just think it's a crazy enough environment that I wouldn't want to have to try to hold myself together while trying to make money. I know a lot of girls who just sit with customers and get drunk instead of walk around and hustle. Then they end up surprised that the little rookie is making more money than them. It's a business. Usually, salesmen aren't drunk. I'm a salesman.

I can get drunk on my own time outside of work. There's no reason for me to risk myself and my employer a ton of money.

If I'm gonna be honest here, I have a problem with drinking more than I should in normal situations, so that's why I'm glad that the club I work at is a juice bar. I totally agree that you have the better potential to make more money sober, mainly because you're in control of everything and are less likely to get conned by guys or even some of your coworkers.
Age is only important when it comes to wine and whiskey!
