Default Dancers Cheap When it Comes to Buying Costumes

I sell costumes at reasonable prices at the rural clubs I book at. I notice that only certain girls want to even look at the costumes, and the girls that need costumes won't buy. My prices are cheaper than the costume people who come in, and girls who always buy from me know that.

What is up with girls that don't enjoy having nice costumes and a good variety of them? Do they not like to dress nicely in real life, are they not concerned with how they look? We are girls, and are supposed to be foo foo and like clothes.

I just don't understand some of the girls in this business.

Any thoughts on why they are so cheap when it comes to their appearance?

Some girls at my club buy the WEIRDEST shit. (not in a unique different way either). The main reason I will avoid looking at costumes is simple, if I look at them, I'm gonna buy something (girlie instincts).

I think some girls just don't understand the concept of looking nice, regardless of the job. Haven't you ever seen the bank teller/real estate agent/etc, that always wears the same unflattering outfits, and they all look worn?

Only other reason I could think is they're broke, trying to save money, or trying to get drug money. (sorry, but its true.)

Well, some are saving all their money for their and/or loser bf's drug habit(s). Some drink away alot of their money before they ever leave the club so can't afford more clothes. Some have kids and feel guilty buying anything for themselves. Some are just plain cheapasses and think it's perfectly acceptable to wear the EXACT same dirty ol' worn out outfit day in and day out. I have seen more than a few girls wearing what was once a white outfit that had turned a rather dark shade of grey - but it still glowed under blacklights and they figured it was their "money outfit"

I don't get it either. But then I have bags and bags of outfits and I don't even like to wear the same thing twice in the same WEEK. I am the same OTC too.

i know that regardless of drug or man problems, a lot of the girls in the high contact area i work in are reluctant to shell out more than 30-40$ for a costume that could easily get ripped dancing for frisky customers. not to mention the theft that occurs when some girl notices an obviously high quality costume sitting on the sink while a dancer is in the bathroom before she puts it on.

i sell costumes too- well i did at my old club, i find there was one of two girls who really didnt have a clue about dancing clothes at all, some who literally did wear the same thing every night- maybe its a luck thing. if they banked in one costume one night, they keep wearing it i am a bit like that sometimes.

Maybe it's just me, but my dance clothes seem to get ruined too easily. A strap will break, a hole will happen, something will get stained or burned. I'm one of the girls who HATES shelling out more than 30-40 bucks an outfit because there's a high chance it'll quickly get ruined somehow. I only wear like, five different outfits in heavy rotation and just replace them when they get screwed up.

okay-- I'm a cheap girl. I'm one of those girls who won't buy from costumers. that is because I was just raised that way; because of this, I always need to comparison shop and I almost always need to get the item on sale. Plus, I don't need a $7-$15 thong. I know where to get my stuff for $1-$4.

My costume pieces have been lost or stolen, and I also get tired of them. The most common place I get my clothing? By trading with other girls almost new items that we tried out and didn't like as much. Or, I buy street clothing that can be used in and out of the club so I get more wear out of it if I don't like it in the club, or vice versa.

I'm sure you all are right about a lot of girls having a poor sense of costuming, or wanting to spend money on drugs or whatever else, but if it makes you feel any better, very few brand name street clothing stores are getting my money either. There's just too many costumes I see that are scraps of clothing, with poor hemming, or weird colors, or whatnot and just plain too expensive.

The items that I would be willing to shell out for, like corsets, aren't stocked by most costumers because of sizing or because they're too specialized a niche. -shrug- sorry for your frustration.

Ok I've been guilty of this- but here is my take on the whole thing.

Yes, I am kind of cheap- I'm not going to spend money every week on a new outfit for work. Sorry, but I will wear an outfit until it looks bad and then I have to force myself to throw it away. I am always looking for a bargain as well.

I will not buy an outfit unless I fall in love with it. I have to know that I look my best in it, and feel like it has special powers. I am really picky and I think a lot of outfits that I run across locally are not that cute or flattering. I like simple outfits that highlight my assets, not distract.

I am. I have like three outfits, of which I really only wear one. And half of it is from H&M. I wash it in zero to keep it nice. Really, if I have three and only wear one, what is the point of having 10 to wear one? I don't really get a lot of inherent joy from shopping, and I really like to keep my investment in dancing to a minimum - costumes and shoes can be very expensive.

I've found that a lot of the expensive shit is just cheaply made. I spent $150 on a gown for work one time and within the same night, the seam was fraying, and the dress just didn't look good. After that, I've never bought anything from any of the costume people who came in. A lot of people think that just because it's called "stripper outfit" means that they can gouge on it. I had 6 gowns, but then again, I only worked 1 night a week...if even that.

I usally bought my stuff from a local sex shop they had all the good stuff there. I bought from a custume lady twice and both times i was disapointed. Just becuse you think the girls look bad in there outfits dose mean they are not banking in them sorry.

I'm both cheap, picky and hard to fit because I'm very tiny. Not a good combination. But what I'm buying HAS to accentuate the postive, be easy to take off on-stage, and fit the parameters set by the club I'm working at. A lot of my favorite outfits I can't even wear at the club I'm working at now. You might have to tailor your stock to the individual club: do they allow sheer outfits? Do they require more coverage than a g-string? Or are there a lot of girls with booty? I'm just brainstorming here. But if you get a lot of girls like me in a club, good luck!

I hardly ever buy costumes from the costume lady. Why? I'm a size three to four with natural FF boobs. I prefer things that are slightly more "covering" like minidresses, and finding things that fit well without cutting off circulation to my chest are hard.

This is not to mention that I have a regular who buys all my outfits... so I don't really need new ones.

I find a good price on stylish outfits. My average costumes I sell for $31-$35 apiece. I have short robes with matching bottoms for $44. The costume stores charge $60. My t-backs run $10. I even own some of the costumes I sell, so that girls can see what they look like on me before they buy. Of course they can try the outfits on.

The clubs I work at don't have any particular dress code, so my outfits are versatile enough to be worn in all of them. I have short dresses, short robes, booty shorts, and some short skirt outfits. I love robes, but for some reason the younger dancers don't seem to be into them, or understand how useful and easy to take off and put on a robe is.

I have girls who do buy from me regularly and always want to see what I have. I sell costumes, but not as fast as I feel I should. It just seems like a lot of dancers just aren't into this business, don't want to give their money to another dancer whom they are competing with, and many just seem to be living from hand to mouth. Dancers just don't seem to spend money on their wardrobe like non dancers do. I'm trying to figure it out.

I buy things for myself in costume stores when I go back home. I have a large costume wardrobe. I buy from a variety of people. I ALWAYS look to see what is out there. A lot of dancers don't even look though, and that is what irks me.

It's very frustrating that so many dancers in this business are sloppy, and lack professionalism and ambition. I understand what you are saying Bridgette, and respect your opinion as you were selling costumes yourself. I know girls have different styles and certain outfits don't fit everyone.

I have a lot of outfits. There are just a few that are in my main rotation. I try to change a few times a night, and would like to buy more outfits. I would spend a lot of $ on outfits, but at the same time I'm pretty cheap. I do not understand why some dancers don't invest more into their outfits. It is a pet peeve of mine to seen worn, frayed, and/or gray items. Many entertainers just walk around in cheap bra and panty sets, or walmart boy shorts. They probably make $ in them still, as guys are not going to give that much of shit anywho, but I simply do not like being in cheap looking outfits.

omg i have to say the cheap bra and panites sets from freakin wal mart were a huge pet peeve of mine when i was dancing i have a real nice collection of cutumes i spent money on and could not belive some girls thought it was okay to wear that. The worst thing i ever saw is a girl who though she looked cute in cut off bdu pants (army uniform) it was not sexy at all becuse those pants are very gappy in the front they are not form fitting they are not low rise just bad for the strip club. Although the the uniform is very very sexy on men.

Hey Tina-- if the main gist is that you're irritated that girls won't even look, then why not adopt some of the mainstream store's ideas? Like Express and ...some jean company that escapes my mind, has a "try this new line on receive 15% off your purchase tonight." you could make it ten, they could decide they don't want anything, but perhaps this would make them more comfortable to try stuff on.
