LOL Screw that. I think they should bust ALL shoplifters. Not just at Walmart either. They are the reason we pay up the ass for stuff. Hook 'em, Book 'em and Cook 'em, I say.

WM SUCKS. Btw, I just took out a library book: The Wal mart effect: How the world's most powerful co, really works, & how it's transforming US economy.
MANY MEN WANTED TO LAY ME DOWN, BUT FEW WANTED TO LIFT ME UP
-Eartha Kitt
actully this policy makes sense alot of times at wal marts people leave a 12 pack at the bottom of there cart by accindent and just throws in the trunk they don't go bring it in and pay for it. This quite laughable becuse i was just talking to my hubby yesterday about how much money wal mart must loose becuse of petty theft and custmer accidents i am sure its in the millions.

and it dosnt even phase them!
haha

I used to work at Walmart. First of all I am even surprised they would allow an article to be writen about this. It encourages people to steal on a smaller level. People that forgot and left something at the bottom of the cart was never prosecuted. They were just ask to pay for it.
The store that I worked at never really had a zero tolerance policy. They would not even bother with someone who hadn't stole an even higher amount than $25. Between shoplifting, scams returning stolen items for refunds, fake checks, stolen gift cards, employee theft, and much more I am sure Walmart probably looses millions a year. The stolen amount is covered by the store it happens at. The stolen amount comes off their bottom line. The store I was at did alot of business, but because theft was so high the store wasnt more than marginally profitable.
Maybe Wal-Mart should focus more on prevention rather than relying on the local gendarmerie to do their dirty work for them.
What do they expect? They cater to society's lowest levels, stock their stores to the brims with mass produced products in huge warehouses, have minimal staff on the floor...duh.

Its not as though Wal-Mart (or any WM competitor for that matter) doesn't want to enforce zero tolerance on shoplifting. Its that in the case of small dollar thefts, it is more cost prohibitive to prosecute the case than it is to lose the merchandise.
I mean c'mon you don't expect Wal-Mart to put principle before the bottom line now do ya?
Former SCJ now in rehab.
That's right, they won't charge, they'll just ban you for life like they did to my friend when she was 15...

I understand the economics of this policy change . You should see all the stuff they throw away at my work ( retail store - orange box ) they dont even sell it to the employees and give the proceeds to charity I don't get it . But bitching about it is doesnt seem to get you anywhere . We have a strict no soliciting policy as well you cant even reccomend someone to do a job for a customer . I could make a killing for side jobs but you cant do it . Deep pocket theory kicks in if something goes wrong .![]()

"Allow"? They don't own the press yet. And it got written because a PO'd employee leaked the info . . .Originally Posted by Vamp

was talking to someone who works at a gas station in a bad area of town. law and order seems to have broken down. Among other things, for things like people running off without paying for gas, the police wont prosecute for something so small.

I used to work for a private security company and we would often patrol a variety of stores to apprehend shoplifters. It was amazing what people would steal. I once busted a lady in her 50's for stealing butter and cheese from a grocery store. And no she wasn't broke or homeless. She had enough money to pay for the items and she worked as a private health nurse!!! Also, when those "Furby's" were popular, I busted a 45yr old man lifting one. SAD,SAD, SAD!!! I loved busting the kids though! I got a kick out of them shitting their pants when I called the police AND their parents!! Tough love, I say!

Wal-Mart

I used to steal everything thing that wasn't locked down, and even some of the stuff that wasn't locked down very well.

My hometown WalMart (dinky small town, not a super center) just closed down! They were losing too much money from shoplifting and letting people go through the line [bagging friends items without scanning and charging it]. It was also common knowledge that larger items often "walked" out the back door. Maybe they thought the $25 rule was actually a $2500 dollar rule! Regardless, due to the excessive amount of shoplifting and theft it has closed. I think it's one of only 3 WM's ever to close and not be replaced by a super center. BTW I can think of a few items under 25 that I would like to have!![]()
My I.Q. is change for a 20 :/

Not free at all. Looks like a National Enquirer title to me.
Just a lower penalty if you get caught.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.
Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.
